Central heating or gas fire?

which is more cost effective? To have your central heating on low all day, or your gas fire on full all day (and still be cold)? I have always used my gas fire and had my central heating come on for 3 hours a day (spread out through the day).
I'm currently trying out having the CH on all day - I'm just praying my bill won't be huge!

Hi thriftmummy,
You should get more help with this on the Fuel and other heating board, so I'll move your thread over there.
