  • An Edinburger born & bred but I lived in Eburdeen for two years, and loved the local dialect. Used to buy the Evening Express once a week for Buff Hardie's Far's the Paper to try to pick up a little more lingo.

    I'm surprised noone mentioned the great rhyme about earwigs:

    The horny gollach's an awesome beast,
    Souple an' scaley;
    He has twa horns an' a hantle o' feet
    An' a forky tailie.

    Cheers

    Thing in one of the Sunday papers about a Doric film that's just been made called "One Day Removals" producer Mark Stirton starring Scott Ironside & Patrick Wight, hopefully out in July. Not much info but something for the Doric fan's to look out for.
    Booo!!!
  • I saw the article in the Sunday Post today - hopefully it'll make an appearance down here in the central belt.

    A comedy in Doric sounds like a good idea.
    Wha's like us - damn few, an' they're a' deid

  • Hello! My name is Mark Stirton and I am the director of the doric film in question. Nice to know people are open to the idea of a doric spoken movie. Cheers!

    I remember seeing Scotland the what a couple of times at His Majesties. The sketch that always sticks in my mind is the one about the Futret. A toy shop owner, Buff Hardy, phones up the late Princess of Wales to ask her what kind of Christmas present she’d like for her then new-born son, William. Couple of extracts below.

    A futret. Div ye nae ken fit a futret is? Futret. F-E-R-R-E-T, futret.

    Ye’d like a jumbo futret? No, it disnae hae a trunk. No, it’s got a string that ye pull, an’ it sings Run, Rabbit, Run. Weel, fit else div ye expect a futret tae sing?
