chances of ending virgin contract due to large price increase

Hi all, i have been with virgin broadband for around 6 years, it is through the phoneline not cable. I have always been on the unlimted internet and anytime calls. Over the years the price has creeped up along with most things till it was almost 19 pound. We just couldn't pay this so i rang to request my mac about 3 months ago. Got offered same package and new router for 12.55, was very happy with this so agreed to 12 month contract. Two weeks ago i got a letter saying they are increasing the price by 5 pound a month starting thjs month. This brings it back up to around wbat we couldnt afford to pay and i dont know what to do? :o

If you got a deal from them 3 month ago, did they say it would be for 3 months or did they say this is for 12 months, if it were a deal for a year call then and tell them to honour the deal they offered you, if they said we can reduce your bill for 3 months, but it will be in return for a new 12 month contract, then you probably would be held to term...so it depends on what was said, did they send any email/letter confirming what you agreed ?,
Someone I know had VM broadband (cable) as a stand alone service and was paying £15/month ,£25 was the 'proper' price, he got them to reduce it to £15, because he also had a 'free' BT line/adsl from his employer so basically said he didnt need 2 lots of broadband, hence the 'retention' type dea they offerd him..but every month he had to call and get the £10 credited as they never billed it properly, then one month (after more than a year) they said, sorry you can only have the discount if you take TV and phone as well, so he told them to cancel the service
