I came on here to ask advice on buying a cheapie but reliable lap top to network to my desktop in the house.
Id been looking at Dells but bit concerned about some of the reviews on the Inspiron 15R.
The Fujitsu looks very good value BUT it doesnt seem to have any MS Office or works with it?
Im a puter dumbo, could I transfer my works stuff from my dell VISTA os to either laptop - Win 7 please?
LibreOffice0 -
Thank you, I do have just Works and Open Office on my desktop but Im so used to the works layout I tend to avoid using OO.
What about a Lenovo? Again, it seems to suggest that Id have to buy MS Office as an extra?

They all do.
As boatman has alluded, they come with Office 2010 Starter instead of Works.
It will definitely have an Office 2010 trial installed.0 -
I would go for the G570 for £400 M5174UK , looks much nicer and marginally faster processor.

Just looked at that - this is a bit that confuses me, it seems to say Id have to buy a key to be able to use the office software?
Microsoft Office PreloadedIncludes a pre-loaded image of select Microsoft Office 2010 suites. Purchase an Office 2010 Product Key Card or disc to activate preloaded software on this PC.
And I dont see any mention of a built in webcam?0 -

Perhaps a sixty day trial of the full suite. To use it beyond the trial, you have to purchase the product or use a free option. Such as LibreOffice.
It has a 1.3 megapixel webcam.
Look here0 -
They all have webcams now so don't worry. The product key they refer to is to give you the full software rather than the 'starter' edition, again this is standard with any laptop, you won't find any laptop that comes with the full version.
Look at the spec here:

I would keep looking as i think it must be possible to get a nice laptop with i3-2310m 500Gb spec for £350 maybe, £400 seems the norm and quite a few at this price. The differences you'll find are ones with usb3/bluetooth/ better webcam maybe 2mb instead of 0.3 or 1.3mb. Don't worry too much about the RAM momory as this is cheap and easy to upgrade(4Gb apx £15-£20). The Samsung looks nice(discount code COMPU5).

2GB RAM/320GB HDD version for £275 Here
2GB RAM costs a tenner, so you only miss out on HDD capacity.
Still good specs for £285 all in.
Will still be ok with the basic 2GB RAM, as they don't install too much bloatware.
has this got the same specs

Yes, it's the same model. Zavvi and The Hut are one and the same. Though would take the battery life figures with a pinch of salt.0 -
