  • Caravan site fees....................... 166.66

    Seriously? Every month?

Jeeeeezzzzzz that's nearly £2k per year!

You could have several holidays for that amount (nevermind the other money it must "eat").

You really need to count up the number of days you use it in the year and see if it really is good value for money - or at least rent it out and try to get some income from it, to cover it's costs.

Jeeezzzzzz - sorry I had no idea site fees were that much (I'd love a caravan somewhere, but it won't be happening if it costs that much!)

  • Yes and this is one of the cheaper sites. The more expensive ones like Haven and Park Resorts charge about £4000 a year. That's not all site fees. Some of that is electric and gas. Obviously the more you use the more it costs.

I'm not really into foreign holidays. I love having a caravan. I've always wanted one and everyone on the site knows each other.
  • It does eat a lot of money ..... if you want trimmings, it's the logical things to go but it also depends on whether you can afford to have it as a luxury and are willing to forego pretty much any other luxury in order to fund it ....

I'm also wondering how you get there?

You have no travelling costs (or car costs) on your SOA apart from your daughters bus fares.

  • We don't own a car. Neither of us need one to get to work, I have the shopping delivered and the town centre is 10 minutes away. So we got rid of it.

Most of the times we go to the caravan we get a lift with other people who own caravans. It's like a community. We all help each other out. I have some real good friends there. We get the bus there (it's only 10 mikes away) about 3 times a year and it costs £8 return.

I'm not forfeiting luxuries. We have a monthly underspend of nearly £500 so we still have luxuries.
  • I'm confused about why you're needing to find "trimmings" then?

Yes that's right. I've always cooked everything from scratch. This month I spent £96 on food, £4 on loo rolls, £1 on soap, £1 on washing up liquid and got toothpaste for free in a toluna survey.

Well it's always good to save money if you can isn't it?

How about increasing your income, I know some benefits might be cut but then at least you have the prospect of earning more in the future? Does your husband not work due to a medical reason or is there something he could do?
