Hi all,

I would like to say thanks to the original poster, as well as nikki and kira for their help with this thread.
I fired off an email to the CEO and to be fair to Santander, they acted very quickly, efficiently, and very fairly.
I had a letter back today saying the same as most people on here, and they have offered to refund
My account with £1300.00.
It,s not going to clear the loan but for the sake of one email it has helped bring down my balance and will help me clear a bit quicker than I hoped.
For anybody who is doubting whether to send off an email and having a go, please do, you have nothing to lose.
My sincere thanks for everybody who has contributed advice on this site, in the last 3 months I have received a total of £25000 in refunds so far with six more claims still being investigated.
I was on the ropes this time last year but now 2012 couldn't have started better for myself and my family.
Good luck to you all with your claims.
Kind regards
Ned.

• Me and OH had to go to FOS, as they refused our complaint full stop.

Regarding your loan, your statement should have the current APR on it, what do the recent ones say? Original rate should be on your original agreement. I thought they weren't giving out loans at 6.9% in 2006, but I may well be wrong.

They tend to guard calculations, as they claim they are business sensitive, sigh.

Complaining to the FOS, they may withdraw the offer they made, but i think there are enough refunds in place not to.

I would ring to make sure they received your complaint, as I have used them a few times and the confirmation normally turns up within 14 days.

Sometimes, I think companies do things on principle, rather than the logic of what it might cost them.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Many thanks for your comments.
I rang the FOS as suggested and they advised that they acknowledged my complaint on 6th Jan (I didn't receive it but never mind, it's on their system).
I checked the starting rate again, and it's definitely 6.9 %.
If they do withdraw their offer it's not a big deal, but I truly believe that I should be due a hell of a lot more than £ 500.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
• hi.could someone please send me the template letter? i have tried contacting them twice. i received a confirmation email but i still haven't heard anything and it was 2 months ago i emailed them. thank you x
• still awaiting my loan agreements which they sent 3 weeks ago :(

Could someone send me a letter template please?
so i can send them a letter when agreements show up
• Hi - The template is;

Account; xxxxxxxxx
I write to raise a formal complaint on the above account. The account was taken out in XXXX with the company Cahoot. I understand Cahoot was taken over in the 2009/2010 period by Santander who had bought the parent company Abbey.
The account was excellent until October 2006 when the company imposed massive interest rate hikes. These interest rate rises have continued .
I wish to complain that these rate rises were unfair and the rate rises and current rate is unreasonable.
Send it to ceo@santander.co.uk

I have been PM'd by someone who questioned their amount (they were given 3 different amounts). They complained to the FOS and Santander agreed to send the calculations to the FOS for independent assessment.
• I'm sorry to ask this & it's probably silly, but I had a flexible loan with cahoot for years, but thing I swapped it with a better loan (I'm pretty sure Santander had nothing to do with it when I was with cahoot) is there any way
I can claim? I.e I left before Santander took over.

Thanks in advance.

Depends if they jacked the rate while you had it.

I took out mine in 2001 and had loads of rate rises, some of which were even before 2006. Satan took over in 2010 I believe, but they also inherited all the behaviour and risk of complaint for the accounts from Cahoot.

If in doubt, complain, as it takes an hour and free as it can be done via email.

• Thanks happy bunny. Yeah I Know I was paying extortionate rates but will send an email off. Mu problem is I don't have any paperwork anymore!

Just send them your address they last knew about, they will be able to track you down.

I think you can claim about stuff that happened in the last 6 years, so hopefully you paid it off before 6 years ago.
