    Hi,

I had a cahoot loan which I payed of just over a year ago, originally for £7k.....like mny others the intrest rose from 8ish % to I think 23%.
I still have a current account with cahoot (now owned by santander), but there is no trace of any of the loan details, no loan 'number' or anything.
I have sent a message through cahoot asking for the loan details (so I can write to complain) but go this:

Thank you for contacting cahoot in Coventry.

The loan that you held with cahoot is now being managed by Santander. As we no longer have access to your account information we are unable to assist you with your query.

You can call Santander directly on 01908 719 137* to discuss your loan. They are available from 8am to 7pm Monday – Friday and 9am to 2pm on Saturday and they will be happy to help you with any queries.

So shall I write anyway, stating my details, my cahoot bank account number?
Any thought would be appreciated :)
Write to the CEO of Santander with as many details as you have to hand.
The account number should show on a bank statement next to the debit details or you can find it on Experian if you don't have the original agreement. The original agreement also showed the initial APR,but its not essential to know that to proceed with the complaint,It will of course give you an idea of how much they owe you if you can confirm it.Santander have been sending out paper statements for these loans since Aug 08 i think,so if you can find one of those it will have the account number too.

In you letter explain that you are making an official complaint regarding unfair rate rises applied to a Cahoot flexi loan during period xxxx to xxxx and that you understand that the loan is now under the administration of Santander.
You will get an automated email saying they have recieved the complaint and the following day one to give you the details of the person dealing with your complaint.
Then sit and wait,if they need more info such as previous address history they will ask you.

You need to send the template letter to CEO@santander.co.uk, they sent back an email saying my complaint was being dealt with by the Chief executive complaints and asked for my full name, address and DOB. Didnt ask for any account number.

I emailed complaints@santander.co.uk, just received automated reply, and nothing else. Then a week later I emailed CEO@santander.co.uk, and this seemed to get things moving, definately go with the CEO in my opinion.
  • Nicky321,

I'd be grateful if you could PM the letter template to me.

    Thanks

Just a quick technical question: did you send the template letter as text within the email, or as an attachment?

Just copied and pasted the template in the body of email.
  • I recently got a refund from Santandar for overcharge of interest.

I took out a flexible loan in August 2002 at a rate of 7.8%, the limit was £5,000 and I still owed £4,300 on it until a couple of month ago which was being charged at 22%. I wrote an initial complaint letter to Santandar which they acknowledged, then sent another letter saying they were still looking in it.

Eventually I received a letter back saying I took the loan out knowing the rate could change, if I wanted certainly I should have taken a fixed rate loan out, and basically they had acted within the terms and conditions of the loan agreement. Then, in the paragraph they said depsite all that, as a gesture of goodwill, they would refund all the interest charged over and above the first rise in interest to 8.0%, this offer was worth £3,600.

I signed to say I accepted and within 3 weeks the money had been credited to my account and I am about to clear the balance rest of the balance :)

A friend has also followed the same process I used and recouped over £4k of overcharged interest.

I feel like I am going round in circles :(

Santander will only send the cheque to the DCA. I spoke to the DCA who returned the account to Santander 2 months ago for reasons unknown. Went back to Santander who can't help as the balance on the account is zero as its been written off.

No clue as to what to do now. Will Santander just send it back to the DCA?
