Sorry, I meant exhaust manifold. Please excuse me for having the cheek to post after I'd been up 48hrs straight....

As a qualified mechanic, I am aware of how a turbo is hooked up, thankyou very much.

    Qualified for what.

    Mopeds?

If you choose to come on shouting nonsense after 48 hrs, maybe you need to think if you can manage it anymore.

    For the love of god....

EVERY SINGLE TURBOCHARGER WHETHER PETROL OR DIESEL NEEDS TO DO THIS. It has nothing to do with whatever the output of the turbo is and everything to do with the fact it is bolted to a red hot inlet manifold as that generated the heat, not the turbo. If there isn't oil circulating it kills the bearings. Most turbos die from the bearings packing in long before the blades have worn.

The essence of what you say is correct but lets pull up on some details: "Has nothing to do with turbo output"??!!! So more air into the engine doesn't result in more fuel giving more heat into the exhaust manifold, is this what you're saying, (btw the exhaust manifold didn't generate the heat) because if it is I suggest you research forced induction some more. It's true runing the engine keeps the oil circulating, but you have to turn it off sometime, so doing it after a few minutes idle compared to a cruise at the end of a drive at say 1500 rpm (vehicle in motion will provide airflow) is probably equivalent. . Use good oil, take it easy at the end of a drive or yes idle it for a bit is good form. What I'm saying is, it's a Mondeo diesel not a 1000BHP Supra, running it at the end of drive probably wouldn't have made much difference to it surviving that MOT.
