Smart Car vandalised tonight.

Options
Hi everyone

My daughter had her car vandalised this evening, and they have smashed in the rear window and passenger window, plus all the tyres were slashed.

The car is a Smart FourTwo, and we have no idea where to start making enquiries tomorrow as to getting new windows fitted ... Could anyone point us in the right direction please.

Thankyou :o)

  • Sorry to about your car

I suggest contacting your insurance company and previous to that the police.

You could claim for the everything, or if you dont want to you can normally get the windows replaced for an excess depending on what your policy is.

But def worth reporting to the police as if they catch them you maybe able to claim from the offender.. hopfully somemore advice will come soon

Phone the insurance and go through their authorised glass repairer. It should be around £65 a window rather than the full rate (hundreds).

Thanks so much guys for all your advice!

The police were phoned immediately after the damage was found, and, this morning, my daughter telephoned the approved glass repair company attached to her insurance, and they said as the car is deemed as unsecure, they will come and replace both the windows for £65 each today PHEW!!

The guys at our local tyre company are a really decent bunch, and they are going to replace all her tyres for a really good price.

i think you'r going down the right route, not involving your insurers.but some insurers don't charge an excess for vandalism,so may be worth checking first

She has 4 years no claims bonus unprotected, so I guess she should leave the insurers well alone ... Is that the right thing to do?

i'd say definantly yes,but it all depends which insurance company she's with.i think esure and lv don't penelise you 4 vandalism,i.e no loss of no claims or excess to pay.but it would still be registerd as a claim,so could effect your quotes when renewing.so you will need to do a bit of research 1st check your insurer online to check the policy terms and conditions.DO NOT PHONE THEM,as they may log it as a incedent on the system even if you don't go through them.then work out your cost involved i.e 4x tyres at approx £70 each + 2x£65 for the windows approx £360.and then perhaps do a fictisous price comparision through a comparision site, adding the claim for vandalism and see how much the increse would be?

You'll also need a really good vacuuming as you'll be finding pieces of glass inside for years afterwards
