How long before MAC becomes active?

Just got a MAC code over phone from Sky as BT infinity now in my area. However when I enter code BT site says it's not valid. Is this because it takes a certain time before you can use it?

It should really be active immediately, the BIG problem with these is telling zeros as against letter O and ones against letter l (L lowercase), if you had it over the phone the operator could have mis read their system, ask for it by e-mail it may help.

As above, try all capital letters. I did try to explain to BT once the amazement of the toupper() command in Javascript, but they didn't listen ...

If your plan is to move from Sky to BT Infinity it could be the MAC isnt required because the MAC is the process to ensure no ceasation charges, and a seamless changeover when moving between SMPF/ADSL providers, the work is done inside the telephone exchange by BT but is payed for by the gaining provider...Infinity is FTTC so no work is done in the exchange, or it could be that your Sky service is LLU/MPF and again the MAC process isnt designed for this, if you dial 17070 from your landline and you get a AVR of something like 'Hi Im Zoe', then you are Sky MPF and the MAC process isnt needed and your line would have to move from Sky to BT
  • I moved from Virginmedia to BT Infinity 10 days ago and the Mac code was needed. BT said they would contact Virginmedia and I could leave everything to them, however, when I got my final monthly bill from VM it was wrong as I was on a rolling contract which meant I didn't have to pay any extra for cancelling. I rang VM and they said they had not been informed that the Mac code had been used and so my current account had not been closed. The girl I was then talking to said she had then closed my account and I would be rceiving a refund.

Your Mac code lasts for 30 days.

For what it is worth, I ordered my BT Infinity over the phone and the girl did ask me for my Mac Code, you do need one.
