TV recording advice wanted.

After two years of intermittent service, BT have finally admitted to misselling Vision to me (another story!). Anyway, I had not realised that I would not be able to use the box to record on, nor that I would lose all of my recordings!!

So, what I need is another recorder. I liked the features of the Vision box (pausing and rewinding live TV, series record etc). I do not have a dish, nor do I live in a cable area. I did not really use the subscription TV much, so do not want a big monthly bill.

I still seem to be able to access BBCiplayer, will that now come out of my broadband allocation?

Any advice re PVR or freesat would be gratefully received.

Freesat PVR facilities will require a dish and a twin feed from the LNB. Freeview can use your existing rooftop aerial. Either will cost you nothing except the one-off expense of buying the PVR.
Just choose which platform you want to use and buy the appropriate Humax box. If you want HD on Freeview then the price will be rather higher.
For Freesat get a Humax Foxsat HDR, for Freeview SD get a Humax PVR 9300T.
Yes, IPlayer counts towards your monthly cap, whether you stream it or download.

If the children watch iplayer through the wii, does that count against the bb cap?

Is there any advantage is getting a dish and freesat, or sticking with a simple PVR?

Right, I've bought the Humax and set it up. It will take me forever to work my way through all of the things it can do!

So, is it possible to remove the card reader (ESPN) from the Vision box and install it in the Humax?

Yes, the Hummy accepts a viewing card in the CAM slot.

And yes, it will all come out of your BB limites if you have any imposed. iPlayer is a big user of data. As an alternative, TopUp TV offers the same without iPlayer access, and is considerably cheaper - and it doesn't use BB.
