Sounds like a sound plan, good luck with it and hope he finds something soon.

Thanks. I hope it doesn't take too long for him to get a job. A perfect scenario is that he gets a new job quite quickly and we'll be left with the remainder of his redundancy in savings - but we can live in hope!

Hope all goes in your favour and your DH finds another job soon. Hope your insurance pays out aswell, that would be a bonus. Did you decide what to do about your own application?

I've just tried upload my photos but my account has changed and I can't do it. My screen is covered in photo icons! I printed off over 12 months of photos with the intention being putting them in albums in chronological order. This was one of my jobs before maternity leave ended, I have now been back at work for over 3 months!!
    June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!

Yes, I have an interview for the 'Officer' post in 2 weeks and have confirmed that I will be attending. I will feel embarrassed as I didn't get the 'Co-ordinator' post and the new 'Co-ordinator' will be interviewing for their old 'Officer' post, so hopefully it won't go too badly.

The job is less money than I am currently on and it is a bit of a gamble wanting to change jobs with DH being made redundant, but it is a job I would really enjoy, better working hours and it will also not put any restrictions on DH when he applies for jobs i.e. working shifts, nights etc.

I always mean to keep up to date with photos, but I never seem to have the time!

DS1 is 4 years old and in reception class and came home with his first lot of homework on Friday, so we have been busy with letter recognition and drawing photos to coincide with letters etc. I have to say my picture of a horse looks terrible and DS1's version of a horse (next to mine) looks better and his is just a squiggle! :rotfl:

Lol... nice to have a budding artist in the family.

Sorry about your DH being made redundant, but you sound like you are both very positive about it and are making plans to cope.

Is it long since DH was last job hunting? If so, see if his work are offering any placement services, who will help him get his CV up to date and think about strengths, where he could look for a job etc.

When it comes to job hunting, I can also strongly recommend Perfect CV and Perfect Interview by Max Eggart.

They are great books for job hunters, and the £15 you will spend on them will be more than worth it.

    Good luck!

  • Hi SD, good luck to DH with his job hunting. Your plan seems strong and the offset will be a big help. I hope the job interview goes well for you as that will make a difference being closer to home and better hours.

    Thanks Sepa.

DH has been in his job for 8 years but has had a few interviews during this time. He has been attending some training courses at work and as I had updated his CV the Job Centre rep at his work didn't need to many any amendments to it. He has signed up to a few agencies, but as soon as he is made redundant he will be straight down the job centre.

I will take a look at that book, as it will benefit the both of us.

DH has received his monthly pay, so I transferred it all to the Offset Savings account. In preparation for his impending redundancy, last week I transferred our weekly spend to the 'Spending Account', so that we have a set amount to live on from Monday-Sunday.

After doing some sums and fiddling with the spreadsheets I have added an additional £5 to the weekly spend (got to live a little :rotfl:). We have done well this week and am pleased that we have £19 remaining in the account today, so this will be rolled over to next week's spend.

I know that I am being quite strict, but it's quite easy to say 'we'll buy this, we'll buy that - just take the money from savings', but as DH is being made redundant I don't want to be spending willy-nilly as we have to make his money last as it will be used as a weekly wage for Food, Petrol and Spending and my wages are used for all other Bills/Direct Debits. I only want to take money out of savings as a last resort.

On the job front - DH has applied for 5 jobs this week and is being really proactive, some are local which is good, so hoping that something comes out of it.

Total overpayments made for September so far is: £116. Not as much as last month but putting more money into savings makes more sense at the moment.

Received Childcare Vouchers this week so balance in the account is: £951. Hoping to save them up for a further month until DH gets made redundant and then I will start using them so that I can put the nursery costs (already accounted for) into Offset Savings.

Had our Credit Card statement this week and Cashback to be paid in January 2013: £51.50 - which will be used as an overpayment of course!
  • Sounds like a sound plan. Quite right to be strict.
  • Just a quick update - total overpayment made for September is: £131. I have bought my first two Christmas presents online tonight using left over money from the weekly spending account. Hoping to start buying presents on a weekly basis and where possible I will use Cashback sites to earn extra money.
  • Well done Daisy! Keep going, this is the hard part of the year I reckon, crammed with temptation!
