Sweetdaisy's aim to be mortgage-free

Just think of the OP's we could make without all these nursery costs! It's like having two mortgages at times.
I know, roll on to September 2014 when DS2 starts school :rotfl:. However, even though I'll no longer be paying nursery fees - our school dinner and after school club fees will double so will only be able to save approx £40 a week, which is a lot less than we pay out, but nevertheless, it means I'll be able to increase our mortgage overpayments.0 -
Hope everyone is having a good Bank Holiday. As usual (I seem to do it every bank holiday!) I have been sorting out the house and going through cupboards and throwing out things that I don't need. Have also gone through the Boys wardrobe and sorted out DS1's clothes and kept clothes that are salvageable for DS2 and for DS2's clothes that no longer fit, I have placed them in recycling bags.
Interest charged on the mortgage for the month was £222, so balance is now in the £78,000's. Not many overpayments made, as still waiting for money to arrive from survey sites etc. Bought some clothes for the children from Next, spent over £70 but used up vouchers/gift cards from their birthdays, so only had to contribute £10.
DH has been given his redundancy date and is leaving work at the end of October, so we have been busy applying for jobs/sending off his CV. His employer has been providing lost of support to staff i.e. training, CV writing. The Job Centre rep was in his work last week to provide CV writing training and said that his CV was one of the best they had seen - so it should be - I wrote it! :rotfl:.
I have an interview next week for the post I applied for, however I am not holding out much hope as it has probably gone internally, but are holding interviews as a formality?
I am working tomorrow, but at least I get double time for this, so it will be used as an overpayment at the end of September.0 -
Hi SD, well done for getting under £79k. I hope all goes well with DH and job hunting and good luck to you for your interview.
It does the soul good having a sort out, we have done the same:)
Best wishes Tilly x2004 £387k 29 years - MF March 2033:eek:

Thanks Tilly.
I do love sorting things out, but I just don't know how we seem to collect so much. It's as if I have a 'nesting' gene in me and I just get a frequent urge to take everything out of all the cupboards and have a good clear out.
I managed to clean and sort out the cupboard under the stairs - something which I have been meaning to do for months, but didn't have the motivation to do. It took ages and I had to get rid of lots of pairs of DS1's old wellies. I have kept them thinking that - as they were hardly worn as we had to provide one pair for nursery/school and keep a pair at home, feet growing quickly etc - they would come for DS2, but because of his genetic condition he won't be able to get a pair of wellies big enough for his feet. Nevermind, I put them all in the recycling bag, along with the old clothes.

Had a job interview today, but unfortunately didn't get it. The job was 'way above me' but it was good experience and I had constructive feedback. Think in future that I will apply for posts that are not above me and go for ones on the same level or slightly below (if it's better working hours and is financially manageable).
This has spurred me on to try and make more mortgage overpayments (or at least keep them regular) so that I can slowly chip away at the mortgage.
On a different note - I was brave today and had a look in the attic :rotfl:. This is a job that we should have done years ago, but there is so much up there that I may have a look through some stuff on the weekend and make a start at sorting out the attic.
Total overpayments for August: £131.0 -

I may be looking at a new job soon and feel very nervous. I've never really done a proper interview before, the job i have was initially a temporary job but then i was made permanent and i've been here two years now!
I would like to stay within the bank, just another department but i think the fear of interviews is going to hold me back. The one i had for the job wasn't as intense as my peers who applied through the standard means and not an agency.
After my Cornwall trip i'm going to start searching quite intensely on the careers site for the bank. It would be nice to earn more money...meaning more OP!!
I've also updated my CV. My flatmate used to do a similar role in the bank as me and he showed me his CV which his GF an ex recruitment consultant went over for him. I also got the BF to make the layout look really good (i fail at IT). So basically after the update, only about 20% of the CV is my own work!!!!!Mortgage 1: May 2012 £90,000 April 2020: £47,000
Mortgage 2: £270,000😱 Jan 2019 £253,000 April 20200 -

Surely you mean 'I excel at identifying, and encourage further development of, others' skills'.
20%? That's quite a high % of your own work I think compared to most folk I know :rotfl:.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

I would say - just go for it, as you have nothing to lose! The interview I just had was the 2nd one in over 7 years and even though I have gone for jobs that have been 'way above me' they have been good experience as they have been tough interviews. I definitely went in feeling more relaxed than the last interview. At least I am starting to build-up my 'interview confidence' again.
I can't believe that it's the 1st September, the year is flying by. Think I need to start thinking about Christmas presents .0 -
