Wondering if I can have some advice please?
A few weeks ago I applied for two posts with the same company. One was a 'co-ordinator' level with a starting salary of £2,000 more than I am currently earning and rising to £6,000 more than I am on and the other was an 'officer' level starting on £3,500 less than I am currently earn and rising to the salary I am earning now.
Anyway, last week I had an interview for the 'Co-ordinator' post but unfortunately didn't get it - it was way above me and a very tough interview but the experience was good. I hadn't heard anything about the 'Officer' post within 5 working days of the closing date and company says if not heard anything after 5 days you can deem your application unsuccessful, so forgot about it and assumed it had been filled internally.
Anyway, I have now received an email inviting me for an interview for the 'Officer' post and after a bit of name internet searching the person who will be interviewing applicants for the post has been promoted to 'co-ordinator' and it is their job that they are now interviewing for.
I feel that I want to go for the interview but also feel a bit embarrassed because I went for the 'Co-ordinator' post and didn't get it and the new co-ordinator will be aware of this.
If you were me, would you go for the interview or not? Or would you feel too embarrassed as it is the same company?0 -
Mmmmm wouldn't go to a job paying less than the one I'd already got, unless you really didn't like your current job, or the new one had demonstrable better prospects.
You could go for the interview, give it your best shot, if they offered it you, you could say you wanted it, bur couldn't afford a drop in salary, if they want you they may bridge the gap. At least you'll have no regrets if you go to the interview.
I wouldn't feel embarassed though that's for certain - good luck.Start Date 16/09/2015

Thanks QB Wolf.
I know it doesn't make any sense to go for a job on less money, however the job is flexible Monday to Friday 9am-5:30pm, it's half the commute that I currently do, won't need to work until 10pm every Friday night, won't be working bank holidays or Christmas Day or working 'on-call' one week in every 5 (all of which I currently do).
I have weighed it all up and even though the job is less money, I will be working closer to home and have better working hours so that I can spend more time with the children and fuel costs will be reduced.0 -
Oh well that put's a different spin on it, definitely go for the interview then (there's more to life than money) - still think you could negotiate a little.Start Date 16/09/2015

Received £38 payment from Top CashBack today
, so paid a mortgage overpayment of £19. Mortgage balance stands at: £78,908.00. I am still saving up my childcare vouchers and have £708 in our account, which will cover DS2's nursery fees for 10 weeks. I hope to keep on saving them up until Husband gets made redundant in 6 weeks and then start using them, so that the nursery money which is accounted from my pay can be used towards savings.
I have been going through and sorting my toiletries and whilst it won't help me to reduce my mortgage, I am going to use up all toiletries before buying new ones so that I'm not being wasteful. Besides Christmas is coming, so need to make way for some more!
Have spent the past hour uploading photos of the children to my Photobox account - to get printed. I noticed that I haven't even printed last Christmas' photos. So have spent ages sorting them out and making calculated guesses of when photos were taken so that I can date them. Updating of the photo albums is something that always seems to be on the 'back burner' and I need to start making a conscious effort to keep them up to date.0 -
Most digital pics are embedded with the date taken by the camera (assuming the camera has been set up!). Right click and select properties and you should see the date/details. Sorting photos is a bind. We got rid of our albums and got some picture boxes off Amazon - its saves so much space. We try and reduce the number of pictures we take now as well - you really don't look at that many and I found I was worrying so much about getting shots and the like I was actually missing out on the experience I was supposed to be recording for posterity!
We try and print off the ones we want to keep now every six months or so, delete the rest and then save and back up the digital images. I have a lot of older stuff to go through and must knuckle down to it soon.
Sorry to hear about the old man's job - anything lined up?0 -

Unfortunately the camera hasn't been set up! I find it too complicated to use but DH is always fiddling with it and I think he managed to change the settings and we can't get date/details from it. As DS2 is only young I am able to guess how old he is from the clothes size he is wearing :rotfl:.
DH has known for a long time that he is going to be made redundant so we have been busy saving as much money as we can, besides he is going to get some redundancy money which we will use as his 'monthly' wage, so we should be Ok for 8 months or so before we will need to dip into savings. He has applied to a few agencies and sent his CV off, so it's just a waiting game, but as soon as he finishes he will be looking for a new job.0 -
DH received his official Redundancy letter yesterday and is being made redundant in 6 weeks. We have decided to use his redundancy money as a weekly 'wage' as we currently use his pay to pay for the weekly food shop, fuel for cars and weekly spend. After Tax and NI, we have worked out his redundancy pay and we will be able to use his money for 45 weeks (approx 11 months) before it runs out and we will need to dip into savings.
So each week I will transfer money into the 'Spending' account and after food and petrol (for both cars) we will have £60 a week to spend, this will include activities for children etc. I haven't been as strict as I would have liked over the past few weeks with our spending money, so from next week I am going to start transferring the money on a weekly basis and see how we go.
As we have an Offset Mortgage, his redundancy money is going to be put into the Offset Savings account, so that it will reduce the interest. However, DH will be looking for a job straight away and will treat himself to a new Road Bike once he finds a new job (that's if he finds a job before the money runs out!). He's going to be able to apply for JSA for 6 months and hopefully we will be able to claim on our mortgage protection insurance.
Received £50 payment from Dooyoo today, so £25 paid as an overpayment and £25 gone into the savings account. Total overpayments made for September so far is £108.
The nights are drawing in and it feels that Christmas is only around the corner :xmassmile, so I am going to start buying some presents in a few weeks - maybe one a week so that I can get organised.0 -
Sounds like a sound plan, good luck with it and hope he finds something soon.0
