santander current account is the card online or offline ?

Options
My partner has applied and got a santander debit card it doesn't have an overdraft. The number begins 454742 she's unsure as to whether its able to be used on trains petrol pumps or airplanes. I'm with Natwest but my card is blue so needs a connection to make a purchase. is hers the same ?

thanks

  • 4547 cards are full Visa Debit cards and can be used everywhere that accepts Visa Debit. Just be sure your partner unlocks the card by going to a Santander cash machine, put in their pin and then go to the 'Pin Unlock' setting. Otherwise transactions might be declined until this is done.

    thanks for the answer

are all santander debit cards able to be used in this fashion or is santander like natwest and do they have cards which can't be used on trains.

I've only been with natwest since june but the fact i can't use it on trains is quite annoying. I have to use a credit card but with a low limit compared to what i earn i have to pay off the card several times a month.
  • Yes Santander like most banks issue on and offline cards depending on your credit score!

If it is an embossed card it is not. If it is an unembossed card (Flat numbers) it could be either. See if it works at a pay pump. If it does then its an offline card.

the numbers on the card are raised it just looks like every other debit card i've seen. i don't think she'd do that she gets embarassed easily and unless she knows for certain it is she won't try.

    4547 is an online card
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

All the santander embossed cards are offline. Only the unembossed cards can be online and most of them are still offline.

This thread has me confused now, the numbers on the card are raised the number is 454742. I understand that its an embossed card as the numbers aren't flat.

I know it would be easier to just try it on a train but i know she wouldn't i have suggested she ask santander CS but i've seen peoples experience with them so i doubt they would offer much help.
