New five pound coin: scam or what?
Comments
-
Legal tender means money which must be accepted as payment of a debt.
If you have 50 1p coins, this isn't legal tender.0 -
I too received this invitation this morning (17 August 2009) and was intrigued as to why anyone would want to send me £5 for £5. How do they make any money? The pamphlet claims that the distribution is post free. If the offer is genuine, maybe what they do is charge you £5 before sending the £5 coin. That way, they have your money for a short while and can invest to generate a profit. Anyway, I will not be taking up the offer. I don't collect coins and I can't see the point.
Incidentally, my pamphlet does claim that the new £5 coin is legal tender (one of the two FAQs on page 2).0
