Argos - Camera & SD Card / case bundle - Not suitable.

Posted this on behalf of my girlfriend.
She bought a camera today from Argos (Samsung ES9). In the catalogue and on the website they have a deal where if you buy the camera, you can get the camera itself and a bundle of a case and a microSD card for a total of £74 (separately the camera and the bundle would cost £90).
Now, this deal is specifically advertised in the catalogue next to this camera, and on the web page for this camera. The details of the camera itself do not list what memory card it uses. So you would naturally think the microSD card would work with the camera (since it is being advertised as a deal with it). Not so. The camera actually uses SD / SDHC cards, and not microSD cards.
I've told my girlfriend to take them back tomorrow and see what they say in terms of a refund or replacing it with a memory card that actually works with the camera, but how likely do you think it is that they will play ball? Surely it isn't fit for purpose? (and indeed I would complain just on the fact they are advertising something that doesn't work with the camera it is advertised with).
ps - I realise you can sometime use adapters, but personally I would be a bit wary of this. Mainly because using an adapter caused problems with the last camera I had (the adapter got stuck in the SD card slot). And in any case, my girlfriend shouldn't have to pay more because of Argos's (in my view anyway) mistake.

They should replace it. I would expect that a mistake has been made, and you'll not be the only person who has realised that they've put the wrong card in the bundle. A full-size SD card is about the same price as a MicroSD card, so there won't be any difficulty in swapping it.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. The silly burgers..............make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
OP, is this the offer?
If so, it seems quite clear to me that they shoud be supplying a full size SDHC card.
As detailed here...

They have made a mistake, that's all.0 -
I think it may be this: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5694064.htm which is advertised as an "essential extra" underneath the camera.
If so, then OP has ordered the wrong thing, but at the suggestion of Argos' website.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

It is the bottom "special offer" on the first link.I think it may be this: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5694064.htm which is advertised as an "essential extra" underneath the camera.

She actually bought it in store, but the same deal is shown on the website and in the catalogue. I would agree she bought the wrong thing, but surely that is Argos's fault? They were the ones who advertised the deal, they were the ones who implied the card would work with that camera etc etc.0 -

Both deals are under the camera... the correct card deal is IMO more prominent.
The full size card package is actually cheaper.
In that case OP, go back and say sorry you ordered the wrong thing, and could they possibly change it?
You may have trouble as the memory card is outside their 30 Day Money Back Guarantee.0 -

The micro SD card deal is advertised as an Essential Extra.
Semantics perhaps.0 -
The full size card deal is advertised as a special offer with the red tag.

Nope.
Scroll to the special offers bit.
The top one is the Hama case and 4GB SDHC card.
The next one down is the 4GB SDHC card.
The next one down is the 8GB SDHC card.
The bottom one is the Samsung camera case and micro SD card.
All listed under "special offers".
I am not talking about the essential extras bit by the "things you might like".
I am talking about the special offers bit where it specifically puts the camera and the case / microSD card together as a bundle.
This is a bit immaterial anyway, as she bought it in store. I was just using the website to show it is shown as a special offer. However the same thing was printed in the catalogue, showing the case and microSD card as a special offer with the camera (remember there is nothing saying what card the camera actually takes).
I have just got a text reply from one of my friends who works in an Argos store elsewhere, and he has said that he thinks it is an error and that is what the staff at his store have been assuming (he said he replaced 3 memory cards today because of it). So that gives me so hope. Although I know how stuff like this can depend hugely on the store you go to and who you talk to.0 -
Yeah, you do have to be careful with these offers.
When I bought my Ipod Nano (5th gen), there was an offer to buy a case with it. But the member of staff couldn't tell me if it would fit and I couldn't inspect the item before buying. So I left it and bought a case off Ebay instead.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £30,358.130 -
Memory does not come under 30 day refund, this case and the card are worth about £10, to say it was £29 is a bit cheeky.0
