Postage when buyer lives very close to me!!!

Hi
I am not a particularly experienced seller, I just sell things now and then and have gained good feedback.
One of my items has just ended and whilst addressing the packet I have discovered that the buyer lives down the road. Infact i would probably have to drive/walk past their house to get to the post office!
Its a small item that would fit through the letterbox. I think it would cost approx £1.75 to post second class.
The item sold for £3.50 with postage at £2.75. I have to admit I did the listing in a rush and just copied charges that I'd seen others put up instead of weighing it. Generally P&P was around £3 or Free if the item was priced higher at £6-£7
It seems crazy to post it given that I can deliver it today as I have to go to the post ffice for other items anyway.
So what would you do ? Should I refund the postage seeing as I'm delivering it by hand or refund some of it or just post it anyway ...
I was thinking of posting it through the letterbox with a small gift for the child (its a kids item) I don't really know what to do and what would be fair...
Thanks for any advice.

Be a nice person and go and knock on the door with it and refund the P&P.
If it involves an envelope and going out of your way, maybe try and drop it off and then partially refund a couple of quid.
That's what I'd do

I'd pop it through the door as you are going past with a note and then refund the p&p through Paypal.
Your good deed for the day (karma!)
(You never know you might end up with a customer / friend who would buy other items from you without the ebay bit in between!)
A nice thing to do imo :T xx0 -

Yes, make this person your new best friend

Also if you have kids and they do, they might make friends too

If you were going to send it standard delivery anyway (no tracking for paypal protection) then i would just drop it in and refund 90% of the postage:beer:0

Pop it into them and then hope they are as nice as you and dont claim the item was not received
which they will win because you cannot prove it was delivered.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Or just give them £2.75 in cash, and drop it round with out the packaging, probably in the evening, about six, they'll probably be pleased to see you, or you could ask what they'd like to do, they might prefer to drop-in and pick it up one morning0

Check first. Don 't just turn up - the buyer may not like strangers coming to their home. And surely if she wanted to collect/drop off etc then she would have asked too??
It is a nice thing to do, but if she has paid by paypal then you have no proof of delivery to her. I would email and ask if she wanted to collect or have me drop it off to avoid P&P charges so I could refund the payment and she pay cash when I drop it off.0
