    Hi Anniehaha,

You should get lots of help with this on the Techie board so I'll move your thread over there.

Can you tell us the actual name of the registry cleaner you installed.

Did it make a backup of the registry before it cleaned it. Some dont, and if it didnt, it shouldnt have been recommended. If possible, restore the registry it backed up from within the program.

You may also have some malware on your PC. Have you run any anti-malware programs, e.g. AVG AntiSpyware, Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware SE?

I seem to have had a couple of problems associated with `activex` controls and recently AVG cleaned that up - could this be something you have downloaded recently?

Please ignore these warnings see links below - they are bogus and just trying to get you to spend money on their products http://www.cryptguard.com/security_alerts_2006oct.shtml

Try to remove the free reg cleaner, while off the internet, via Start >> Settings >> Control Panel >> Add/remove programs ... then reboot
    then

Please follow the instructions on this thread

  • Thanks for all your help as a newbie to computers I was starting to find these warning quite scary.
This computer was given to me by a family member when they upgraded there computers at work ,they had it all 'cleaned up' and I could'nt understand where these have come from ,so that was why I started to worry
The only products I have added are those recommended by Martin on the website as I wouldn't want to do anything that wasn't recommended , the computer is windows xp if that makes any difference

You are infected by malware - which may lead to other problems - not all the helpful software is as helpful as it claims to be ....

Have you followed the above request to remove the programme and followed the Malware/Spyware Removal Guide from the sticky at the top of this forum ....

    Have you updated Windows ?

What security do you have on your new pc ?
    A firewall ?
    Windows Defender ?
Spybot with the Immunisation set ?
Adware for the occassional scan for spyware
    Anti-virus - with live scanner ?

The above are free and will not produce false negatives or exaggerated issues about a cookie .... and will help keep you safe while on-line .....
