Have already started to meal plan and trying to base meals around what is in fridge. Bought purple carrots yesterday - thinking of roasting tomorrow in oven then adding to pan with stock with corriander (2 and a half packs need using up ....) before blitzing to make purple soup !
question ! have steak I took out last night to defrost in freezer - not sure I will be able to use it tonight - thinking of cooking it tomorrow morning in chilli ? will the steak be ok to use tomorrow morning ? I know I can't stick back in freezer because it will be all but defrosted now.

I think I have underestimated with my £5 - I think you should keep it at £10 and revel in your success at the end of the month, while I dwell on my failiure
ThanksI feel a bit better now .... I will stick with my £10 as I've really no idea so it will be a good base figure to try to reduce going forwards.
A lot of young children do tend to eat foods one at a time, and have to learn to eat the meal as a whole.
I'm still quite bad at this:o I always eat all the veg first for some reason!
I know I'm not starting officially until 1st Nov but am pleased to report nothing thrown away so far!

Thats my pumpkin carved. I know it's early but I have plans for the flesh. By the way, it's from my father-in-laws wheelbarrow. It's the freshest smelling pumpkin I've seen. I'm going to save some seeds in the hope of growing a few for myself next year. Need to look into it.
Anyway - big chunky seeds to be grown or roasted. Flesh to be made into broth, pumpkin soup and a pumpkin pie. Skin to be a lantern but it's what to do with it after that? Could I roast it, hard skin when halloween is over and scoop the roasted flesh that's left over off?0 -
Hello all,
Another catch up, so far I've thrown away 30p worth, well now these more.
I always throw away the crusts from loafs of bread *sorry hangs head in shame* They are just too thick for me
So to that end, I've just counted how many slice of bread you get in a bag of Hovisabout 20 I think so that equates to about 6p
So 36p so far.0 -

You could make a bread and butter pudso easy, and always devoured by my children. Failing that I put my bread ends on the piece of wood we have attached to the fence to feed the birds (and not the dog or the rats ) or sometimes I whizz mine into breadcrumbs to save for making fish fingers, chicken goujons or to sprinkle over a pasta bake.
To be honest I don't like eating them either but since the price of a loaf has rocketted, my 'feeling hard done by' side whats to get the better of them and use every last crumb - warped I know:rotfl:

We don't waste much food here, anything uneaten goes in the composter or in the caddy provided by the council, I've had the caddy 2 weeks & so far all that's in it is come chicken bones, after they had been boiled for stock. I made spag bol this week from the meat left from lamb shanks, I bulked it out with lentils & veg.
ATM I have to pans bubbling on the hob, one with stewed apple for crumble & babyfood, the other one full of the peel & cores & I shall make apple & chilli jelly after straining it & the rest will go in the compost.

Between yourself and squeaky, you've spurred me on to make some fruit stock and HM jelly. Do you use geletin? Would I find this in the baking isle and is it expensive?0 -
I used this challenge as an excuse to thoroughly scrape the last remnants of the cake mix in the bowl but think I might have not done it in quite the right spirit as it never actually made it anywhere near the cake tin:rotfl::rotfl:T'was a good excuse though!!

I am going to join this thread but need to work out the amount. I waste a terrible amount of food because I end up working or not home until late then dont want to eat and what I have taken out of the freezer, goes to waste.
Any savings will be a bonus.0 -
I don't use gelatin, both my stock & my apple jelly set like concrete, lol.
For my lunch to today I fried together some leftover mash potato & leftover spring greens & topped it with an egg.
Hugs Hester
