Thanks guys for all advice.
Just a question on lintels how big are they generally just so I have a better idea for next time.
Well for next time please please please give a bit more info, please.
How big are lintels? Today a min of 150mm either side or the span/window.
Depending on span, 1, 2, or 3 bricks in height. Over a door may only be 30mm.
1 for inner course and 1 for outer if "old", todays pressed steel lintels are a 1 piece pressing that spans both inner and outer walls.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

sorry to revive / hijack this thread, but I have a simmilar prob. Have moved into a 1930's built bungalow and can't drill anything deeper than 1.5cm max into crumbling plaster before hitting what feels like steel esp on the chimney breast. I have tried a hammer drill today (Bosch PSB 750RCE) but it was no better than my 20yr old black & decker.
I wondered about hiring one but the deposit was more than the cost of the drill I've just bought.
I think I should invest in an SDS drill (as mentioned above) hoping it will be better value than getting a handyman in whenever I want to hang a picture.
Any advice on models and what specs I should look for before buying?
thinking of this one
Titan TTB277SDS 3.5kg SDS Plus Rotary Hammer Drill 230V
Thanks folks0 -
The Titan will be fine for occasional DIY work although I do know a cheapskate pro sparky that has one. But he then borrows from other peeps (who have not grown wise to the trick) on the grounds that "its been left on another job".

Cheers
PS and a new thread would prolly have been a good idea n'est pas?The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits. - Einstein0 -
I agree. I have just wasted a couple of minutes reading a largely stupid thread where the OP was giving no relevant information, just to discover it is totally irrelevant to the totally new problem posted by bb1103.T

A new thread for this is just a basic courtesy to everyone you hope reads your problem.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Point taken guys, Will start a new thread instead. Thanks0

Well I agree in principal but I think your reply to the poster is disgusting to be honest. The thread is 2 months old not two years, and is exactly the same topic, whats the issue, most people with something to add probably still have this on the radar and can help,
OK, old threads need to be burried when dead to clear space but this 1 is still fine, poor reply.
2nd OP, when I was at work I specified nothing other than DeWalt for our engineers. We had these dropped fom on high and soaked in oil/water etc no casualties, don't recall any burning out either.
They are not expensive if you go the ebay route, plenty of new and reburbed on there, model no's change, just get one with the spec you need.;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
