Hi Brassic, sorry to hear you are feeling so fed up about things. I think you should definitely call them - from the sound of the letter they are pretty much expecting you to call and say you can't pay it all at once, and surely a token payment is better than nothing. Are you still repaying overpaid child tax credits? It might also be worth speaking to them, as they may be able to hold off reclaiming them for a while if it is causing you financial hardship (I'm sure they have some sort of guidelines about this, but don't know exactly what they are). You are doing so well, please don't be too hard on yourself. xxx

Edit - have you advised the tax credits people of the extra childcare you are paying for while you train? It might mean you are entitled to more tax credits.

    Hi there,

Still waiting to see if we are entitled to any child tax credits - if we are then I'm hoping they'll cancel out what we owe. Will get hubby to chase them tomorrow to update them and find out if we're entitled to anything.

Hubby has drafted out a letter to send to rates people, and will send that off with a cheque tomorrow.

I'm currently filling in a payplan thing, and will see what they come back with. Will also see about calling the debt helpline the police have set up.

    Thanks again.
    Brassic.

    you mention RBOS @6.95% - £853
is this a long term low rate balance transfer?

could you ask them if they could offer a new transfer deal and move some of the other higher interest rate debt over?
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

This is a low limit credit card that I transferred the balance from a high apr card. It was 0% then jumped to something astronomical, but I phoned them up and spoke nicely to them, and they reduced it :D. I'd love to get a lower rate apr on the cahoots (which seem to go up every blooming month), but no one will accept us atm. :(

    Cheers,

Okay so income is £3508, outgoing is £2543.77

So that leaves £964.23 for servicing the debts. Very do-able

    What are the business rates?

    Sorry, missed this one.

The business rates are for a pub my hubby used to run before he was my hubby. He was terribly disorganised, and in lots of financial trouble at the end so I think put his head in the sand a bit. We're now finding out about the few he missed.

Not sure about the do-able. It doesn't seem very do-able at present, but we are having a few really tough months. I think it'll be tough ongoing, as 200 quid on groceries for 5 isn't easy (although better than 20 quid a week by a long way), but yes, hopefully it'll be do-able.

Am gonna pootle off to set up new snowball chart with current estimated pay levels, and new rates (cahoot loans have gone up) and new debts. That's my evenings mapped out for this week then.

    Cheers,
    Brassic.

Just wanted to add, I work as a Credit Underwriter, and I can honestly say that the police force are notorious for being up to their eyeballs in debt (sorry to generalise, I don't mean to offend anyone honestly, but you would be amazed at some of the things I've seen). Anyway, the point I'm making is, DO speak to their debt helpline, as they have seen/heard it all before, and I'm sure they will be very understanding.

I wish there was something practical I could offer you. I hope things improve quickly and you start seeing lots of silver linings everywhere.

Lots of hugs to you and hubby, you have achieved so much already, don't let this storm get you down xxx

    Hiya brassic
First a ((((BIG HUG)))) as I am sure you feel overwhelmed and need one
    Girlie bit over-
Ok-I am in a scary place too and am considering bankruptcy as the only way now after I have tried so hard too.
I have had advice from the National Debtline and the Business Debtline-I have been lucky to have a friend who told me she had gone BR 2 years ago-and it was interesting listening.Make a list of questions for them, re your job etc and plough through them with an advisor-they are there to help and give you plenty of their time and options to consider.
If you had CCJ's etc-that may not look good if you work for the Police either-so please ask the advisor first. Can you check the terms and conditions of your contract and see if it is mentioned? You may find out it doesn't matter at all.History is history-you can't change it-but you can move on positively. You sound like you are doing a fab job of managing on a very limited budget and working hard too.I am getting very creative on the cooking front (lol) myself too.But you have to have a life too!
Why not have a look on the BR threads on this forum?I also found a blog thing online-someone called Mr Piggy-who has written a blog diary before during and after his BR-it is well worth a look(not sure if I am allowed to post external links on the boards)I am sure you can Google it with a bit of research.
    Chin up chuck-
xxx and another hug for you,as I get where you are at the moment quite a lot myselfxxx

Hubby and I are about to go off to bed now - else training will be a non starter tomorrow for me, but just wanted to say a final thank you! We have been going through everything with a fine tooth comb again, and owing to forgetting a couple of monies that needed to be transferred here and there, I think we can manage to keep from at least getting any bank fees this month.

Also, I forgot that I found out today I'm getting paid a bit more than I estimated this month, which means that we can just about afford to eat in February, and heat the house, which is a big relief (poor hubby will have to do without a b'day prezzie on Friday but I'll give him a big kiss to make up for it ;) ).

I've still no idea how we're going to pay the next door neighbour for the fencing he has replaced that blew down the other day mind you (about 60 quid), or to get the car fixed, but we'll deal with that when we come to it.

Moozie - your post made me smile as my hubby always says I'm one of the most positive people he knows, it's nice that it comes across in my online persona a bit generally too :)

Thanks again for all the help, I feel soooo much more positive than I did when I got home :)

    Take care all,
    Brassic

    Goodnight Brassic, sleep well.

Big kisses make much nicer birthday presents than anything you can buy from a shop anyway.
