How long does it take to put up a fence?

Building contractor hired by housing assoc arrived yesterday at about 8am, took down the old fence but not the metal stakes in the ground.
Today he took stakes out, put 3 concrete posts in and 1 fencing panel. Now I know it must be hard work but he spends most of his time aimlessly wandering round with a fag in his gob.
Stood their 15 mins this morning just looking at the ground trying to work out how to get the metal things out.
So he may have finished on Friday.....but it took 4 days to put gas central heating in a house that was previous all electric!
Apparently the company is in trouble, sorry but I can see why when their staff take 4 days to put a fence up.

I very much doubt your local HA would be tendering to a contractor with financial difficulties - hearsay and conjecture isn't helpful really.
As for the fence, did he concrete the posts in? Do they need time to set/settle? Were you given a timescale for the works? Does it really matter when he has his cigarette breaks as long as the work is getting done?0 -
our 50 foot fence, including digging up crappy old council fence and concreting in posts, plus building my decking and balustrade took 2 men , 3 days - not sure exactly how long they spent on fence0

Would the HA check their finances? there was a company who the council used in Norwich who went under a year or so ago but the council were using them until the day they went under so yes they would use a company with difficulties.
Yes he concretes them and they take time to settle but while the first is settling put the next in and so on. They were told 2-3 days and yes it does bloody matter if he is slacking when he is being paid to do work.
Would you be so lenient if you were an employer and your members of staff were taking dozens of fag breaks and taking extra time to do jobs?0 -

Decking takes quite a while I think too, this is about 20-30 foot I think but not 50 foot.
Can't let rabbits out of their hutch as the garden is not enclosed at the moment and having to have someone at home most of the day so he can use the toilet if he needs to.0 -

They'll have quoted for the job and it'll cost what was agreed.0 -
But if I was an employer I would be annoyed if someone took 4 days to do a job instead of 2 days, they could be on another job the other 2 days.
The employer would have costed the job including the number of hours it would take and the employee will know the time allocated for it.0 -

This.
If he's working for a HA it matters not how long its taken him to do it, the price will have been agreed and that is that. He can't go back for extra money or claim its taken longer.
Does it really matter? He's doing his job and he's putting up the fence as he was contracted to do, which you still havent answered my question, were you given a timescale for the works? If not you can't really moan.0 -

Clearly you can't read!
