Managed to pick this up today in my store - only had 3 copies left.

    Used the voucher.

I am female. The person who served me was female and said she had read it and it was a really good book.

Because hard back book = £7.50 with this offer. Kindle version = £12.99, not sure what Itunes price is and this is supposed to be a money saving site

It's the number one bestselling book on the Amazon chart :)

It's been out for one week. I think you'll be waiting a little while if you want a paperback :)

Calling it a fact doesn't make it so. Studies have shown that girls perform just as well as boys in maths, but gender stereotypes prevent them from going into male-dominated fields (Else-Ques, et al, 2010).

And I will give the OP a hard time because studies also show that when women are reminded of the gender stereotypes, they actually start to perform worse (Kiefer and Sekaquaptewa, 2007).

It's not that women are biologically programmed to be less interested in technology than men. It's just that, thanks to people like you and the OP, girls grow up believing that science and maths are male subjects.

Ok first of all Psychology is not a science and should be treated with scepticism at best. Secondly although I'm sure cultural impacts do have some effect on girls maths performance I'm not sure that "negative stereotypes can impair math test performance and cause anxiety via stereotype threat" as your paper describes.

The simple fact is that men's brain's are wired differently to women.
Imaging studies assessing brain function support the notion that females perform better on tasks such as language processing that call on more symmetric activation of brain hemispheres, whereas males excel in tasks requiring activation of the visual cortex. Ask a Neuroscientist.

And thirdly, your response is nothing to do with the original issue anyway! Nobody was saying that men were better than women at anything! (heaven forbid), just that men would be more inclined to read a book on Steve Jobs than women. If you're not even allowed to say this in this politically correct age without being shot down with a load of psychology twoddle then really, god help us.

Just because more men use certain types of technology doesn't mean that they are naturally more interested in it than women. Society teaches children that these are boys' toys. After a while, they start to believe it

I very much hope that you are not raising sons.
