    OMG can someone help me!

    I am trying to speed up my HP550 laptop.
    I have avg (the paid version) but won't renew it after what Ive read on here.
    I use something called sandboxie when surfing (coz someone told me to).
    I use Internet explorer and it's Vista.

    I am trying to follow the steps in your techie guide, but I don't know what the above means.

    All help greatly aappreciated x

    download avast free, uninstall avg, turn on windows firewall, install avast free

    scan with malwarebytes

    disable windows defender

    run startuplite.

    install cleanmem if you have less than 1.5GB of ram

    post a fresh hijackthis log

    If I unclick these what does this do?
    Does it remove them from laptop completely?
    or just when I startup the computer?

    also, should I defrag the laptop too? Father in law says I should but when i tried it was doing it for hours & i needed to turn pc off so I aborted half way through.

    Have you checked task manager to see if you need all the items starting at boot up? I use ccleaner to turn off any not required.

    unticking in msconfig just stops them running at startup, doesn't delete anything, they can be run manually whenever you want.

    defrag is a waste of time, unlikely to make any difference
