Out of date ink Cartridges.

I bought two cartridges together and on receiving them one is nearly a year out of date and the other 9 months!!

I have emailed the seller to say that I am not happy as it should have been listed that they were out of date, they have not come back to me yet.

I have read that HP printers will not accept out of date cartridges so I am reluctant to just try and see if they work as then I will have used them.

Presumably, I can send them back to the seller? Although I would probably have to send them recorded delivery(at my cost) to prove I sent them back? Would the seller have to refund my original postage as well?

I will definately ask next time what the expiry date is!

I'm sure your printer will accept them, but it depends on whether the ink has dried out or not!

Either way, send them back, not necessarily by recorded but get proof of postage. I'm sure you could get a refund under the premise that they are not as described

I've had loads of out of date ink cartridges for a couple of HP all-in-ones over the years and they have all worked perfectly. A couple have been 3 years out of date. The sellers who are selling genuine cartridges at the really low prices are likely to all be selling out of date cartridges. If you want in date ones you will have to expect to pay slightly more.

The seller should though make it clear if indeed they are selling out of date cartridges

Not really. I bought another one at the same time from someone else that was also a good price and the date is 2013.

I think it should be stated in the listing as I would not have bid had I known.

Yes, that is what I think as well.

Some inkjets will dry up completely after a longer period of time but the machine will accept the cartridge and if they work then all that will happen is you will get less pages out of the cartridge as opposed to a brand new one in date, I have used inks for my fax that are a year or so out of date and never had any issues.

Good price maybe, but was it as cheap as the out of date one?

Yes, absolutely, I agree. All I'm saying is that you don't neccessarily have to worry about out of date cartridges.

I always find Amazon Marketplace the cheapest for my HP ink cartridges and have bought many over the last few years, the vast majority of them have been out of date and I've never once noticed lower quality or quantity of pages they have produced.

As some of you said they should be ok, I took a chance and put the black one in my printer.It is printing away at the moment quite merrily so all is ok so far.

I would have still sent them back though, as stated they will simply print less pages therefore run out quicker. You wouldn't go in a shop and buy a pack of something then open it and have one missing and then just keep it so how is this any different?

Its principle really too.

Yes I know, you are right.

It is just so much hassle, and I must admit I was curious to see if they would work as I had read that the printer would not accept them.

Yes, it has run out already and I got 20 pages less than the last one, so not too bad, I suppose

My feedback will reflect all this.

It has taught me a lesson though. I will always ask in future what the expiry date is before[/U] I bid.
