Any way to slash Sky prices?

Hi All
We currently have a Sky + package with Sky Talk and Broadband.
Our bills have risen to just under £40 per month (calls are average of £2 per month)
We get Sky TV for £22.50 and Line rental on the phone of £12.50 per month.
Our internet is free as we have sky talk.
We do not subscribe to Movies or Sports.
Can anyone recommend a way to reduce this cost as it's nearly £500 per year.
Thanks

apart from ringing them up and asking if there are any special offers on at the moment or asking for the cancellation Dept. and saying you want to cancel theres nothing really.
Forget the annual cost, it alwasy sounds a lot.
When you think about it, youre getting a pretty good deal fof £10 a week. Doesnt sound so bad that way, does it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
You could pay for 12 months line rental up front, it costs £119.40, saving you around £27.
Are you on the entertainment pack only or the entertainment extra as well?
Entertainment is £20/month , extra is £5 /month more, so not sure where your £22.50 is coming from, unless its a price freeze thing. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Use Freeview/Freesat for watching TV - £0
Plusnet 10GB/mo broadband - £6.49/mo + £25 activation
OR £6.49 for 3 months then £12.99/mo if you're out of area.
BT Line Rental Saver - £10/mo
Annual cost: <£200/yr + £25 activation
OR <£260/yr + £25 activation if you're out of area.0 -

You forgot to mention the cost of buying the new freeview box to record (assuming th OP would still want to record tv) and the fact that the OP will lose a tonne of channels, sky 1 and and sky atlantic are pretty good imo and I am fairly sure you cant get them for free.YNWA

You can of course cancel the Sky TV sub and watch the Freesat from Sky on the Sky box.
£10 / month if you want the Sky + functions back.
Sky Atlantic is a brilliant channel, and now Sky are commissioning their own programmes it is much improved too. I'm starting to object paying for the BBC TV licence now. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
If you don't have Movies or Sport, are the extra channels you get over Freesat/Freeview/!!!!!! really worth £20pm? Only you can decide. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I couldnt agree more macman. It is down to each individual / household. TV is not an essential so noone even 'needs' freeview et al.
From the looks of it I have the same package as the OP. For me sky sports news, comedy central, sky 1, sky atlantic, fx, LFC channel, the documentary channels and a few others are worth the £20pm.

I didn't forget to mention it - I just assumed it was obvious! The OP only asked how to save money, not how to retain the exact same products/services but pay less.
I've never had Sky, but if the subscription is cancelled, can't the equipment be used to receive FreeSat transmissions?0 -

Yes, it will receive Freesat from Sky. (similar but not quite the same mix of channels as Freesat)That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Well the devil is in the detail isnt it bud. The OP asked how to save on the cost not to reduce the services he was recieving ... which is what you costed out for him. A sky subscription does not equal freeview so you were comparing to an 'inferior' product. The way I saw it was he wanted to know if he could get a discount on his sky deal. A comparison to a similar virgin deal would also have been fine, but to compare what he has to a freeview set is just misleading imo.
As to your last question. Yes the sky box can be used as a freesat from sky box but (unless you pay £10pm) you cannot use the recording facilities (or watch what you have already recorded).
