• I come on here from time to time and offer advice when I can but today I saw two new posts - one slagging off the police, when quite frankly the guy was an !!! and the other one admitting to comitting fraud and having a cash in hand job whilst claiming benefit and complaining of having no money - get a real job and stop sponging!! It is no wonder they get negative replies what do they expect!! Or should I have used the softly softly approach and told them what they were doing was fine - when they were comitting criminal offences - I THINK NOT. What is this country coming too!!

Let's just watch this "let's be nice to others" thread degenerate into a free for all slanging match

I rest my case.

What a shame.

Hi salena

I am a Board Guide on the eBay board and I actually closed that thread as it was becoming abusive and unproductive. There are other threads on the eBay board that discuss the pros and cons of Ebid.

I can't see that starting this thread over on the Freebies board really helps the issue, to be honest, although I'm sure that you had the best of intentions.

My advice on that thread and to anybody that sees a post that they feel is being offensive or abusive to another poster is to send the link to abuse@moneysavingexpert.com

The same response is needed if posters believe that any posts are 'spam' or advertising posts where the poster stands to make some personal gain.

Hi Jo,

Thanks for the advice i will indeed use the email option in future.

• Read all the messages as you start to go down, its actually pretty funny! Everyone should just calm down and relax! Ok, so this person shouldn't have used the title 'Free, free, free' BUT some people were quite rude in response. There IS a problem with people being rude on here, and as a newbie myself I want to apologise to any of the older members for any insult or problems we may have caused, or any disharmony, it was purely unintentional on all our parts. We do have something in common though - we all want to save money and we all hate spammers!! So lets unite and be nice to each other - life is too short!

I dunno why everyone is so shocked about people being nasty and rude on a forum!

Its like that in life let alone on a forum where hundreds of peoples views are being expressed.

Sadly manners, being nice and polite seem to be a dying fashion.
• some of these posters are really saddos they want to get a life!

Once again I feel compelled to write to say, ITS FREE!! it doesnt cost anything to be nice.
I browse this site on a daily basis and get very dismayed to see such snide nasty comments from the allegedly "not so newbies" etc etc to some peoples first posts.
I know some are spammers but they are easy to spot.
It doesnt cost anything to have/use good manners.
We all have to start somewhere.

I must say I do agree with the OP , although I will most likely be "flamed" for doing so publicly.:rotfl:
I am a moderator on several Freecycle groups(which is free free free) and I have to say when I find myself dealing with difficult members or people who do not understand , I always try to re-read what they have emailed me or written , and tried to be polite and helpful in my responses . However we are all human , and we all make mistakes , the trick is to apologise if you have been rude or are in the wrong or have made an error of judgement.
Spammers get everywhere and I agree it is very irritating , but it is not life threatening , and is easily ignored without comment (which is I believe the recommended course of action). However some newbie posters are at their wits end when they find this group/website , and are so worried by their debts they are actually contemplating harming themselves or worse! I for one would not want to feel I had in any way contributed to their problems with thoughtless comments .
