RichGold, their own independent inspection found the paint was inferior to the standard expected of a new vehicle ... hologram effect and bad buffing. they wouldn't respray the car and if it was just a smudge on my glasses why did they replace the car and not just buy me new glasses :)

Emmzi . i was daft at the time. i paid each month as i had the money saved in my account ,hence, i wanted to pay cash when i went to the dealership, but the said this would be classed as money laundering and i needed to take out the finance agreement.

I paid £22k for my car with my debit card. Nobody mentioned a thing about money laundering.

And I know at least one friend who paid £25k on his Visa Credit Card.

It was much better than carrying the cash in my briefcase.

    It may be.

I am an (albeit forced) convert to cheap cars. You just need a trusted car dealer who gets taxed, MOT'd part-ex's in.

I have a 14 year old mondeo that has done 127k miles and happily does 900 miles a month.

I am at the extreme end though, nicer cars can be had but still under the £2k mark.

Steer clear of Audi and other "premium" brands unless you have money to throw away...we had a few on our fleet at work and they broke down and malfunctioned just as much as the other cars...in fact, the Fords seemed better and only the French ones were worse.

I must admit, having taken on a BMW3 not so long ago and disposing of a Focus, I miss the old Ford.

Cabin is much better built. Controls are designed around the driver (e.g. much easier to change radio station etc).

The Beamer wins on fuel economy, so I assume there's a bit more magic under the bonnet.

But for practicality and comfort Ford have it for me.
