to get tomtom to work on an n73 you will need the software and a gps reciever which will connect to the phone via bluetooth. The gps reciver is what finds the satalites. The receiver should come with the software

I'm using the latest Navicore (2007) on my N73 and I think it's every bit as good as tomtom and it includes free traffic updates and speed camera alerts both of which are extras with tomtom.

Currently you can get Navicore 2006 (including their gps receiver) for £59.99 with free delivery from The Link which you can upgrade (free) to the latest 2007 version on the Navicore website.

BarGin, that looks like a great bargain.

As Navicore2006 comes on an mmc card and is also not compatible with Series 60 v3. How do you get it on the N73 phone in the 1st place in order to perform the upgrade via USB cable from a PC?

Massive saving though, Navicore 2007 is £169.95

    Rules for the upgrade:
Extension to free Upgrade campaign for Navicore Personal 2006/1 users
The campaign period has been extended to the end of March 2007. As a part of the Navicore Personal 2007 launch campaign, Navicore offers to its end-users the ability to upgrade their Navicore Personal 2006/1 free of charge to Navicore Personal 2007, if the original 2006/1 product has been activated between September 1, 2006 and March 31, 2007.

The activation time is recorded when the end-user activates Navicore Personal 2006/1 for the first time using either an SMS or GPRS connection. Products activated outside the defined period are not eligible for the upgrade campaign. The upgrade is available only as a software download through Navicore Update web service (update.navicoretech.com) and for the same map region as the originally registered Navicore Personal 2006/1 if such exists
    .

    Hi,

A couple of important points you should pay attention to.

    1) What firmware version is on his N73? If it is V2....0.0.1 you will get Bluetooth dropping no matter which Bluetooth GPS device and software you decide to purchase and use. I'm with 3UK and they only have V2 so my Navicore is useless to me at the moment. Check which Network Provider he is on and what the product code is of the phone (found under the battery).

    2) Registering with Navicore allows you to enter your licence code and download the latest software for your version (you select the operating system i.e. s60 v2, s60v3 (N73) or other). I purchased 2006 edition and when I placed the CD in my computer and selected the link it opened up Navicore and I was able to register and select the correct version for my device. This is the same for getting the free 2007 edition upgrade before the end of Jan 2007- you get the new licence code from Navicore and then can download it direct from their website.

    3) Upgrade the firmware of the phone if you are on V2..... to V3 if you can.

  • my code is 0541479. Which version is that?
  • Can an N73 be unlocked? I read somewhere it can't

To get the latest version V3.0649.0.0.1 unbranded firmware use product code 0527009 . This is done by using a freeware prog called Nemesis Service Suite. Then you can update using the Nokia Software updater. Then change your product code back to the original

As far as I am aware it is now only 3 that does not have branded V3 firmware available on the Nokia Software updater anyway.

*#0000# will display your firmware version, as long as it starts V3 there's no real pressing need to upgrade on the Nokia Software updater let alone mess around with product codes to get the very latest version.

Ps A great theme on the N73 for those who need reading glasses is igBase 02

If you go the NSS route you invalidate both the Nokia and Network Provider's guarantees. They can see what firmware your phone should have. This route is only okay if you are later able to update to a later NetWork Providers firmware update.

    Thanks for the theme.

Go here to see if there is an upgrade available for your phone:

The Nokia Discussions and 3G Forum also have information regarding firmware.

This page has info on what the N73 firmware updates do:

  • Can an N73 be unlocked? I read somewhere it can't

I believe this is only done via the Network Provider -usually at a charge and sometimes only after the minimum contract term is served
