Packing clothing

Hi all

I've had a quick search and am a bit confused, what would you say is the best way of packing clothes to send?

Should I use jiffy bags, or will cut up black bags do?

I have had a clear out and would like to try my luck again on eBay.

Also as they will be low value should I just post them first class and not bother to use recorded delivery.

Thanks

On the rare occaisons I send clothes I use a clear plastic bag for the inner wrapping, fully sealed. Then put the lot in an outer plastic mailing sack as they are tamper and water proof. I buy my mailers on ebay from a seller someone recommended on here who does lovely thick colourful bags at a reasonable price.

Remember to check whether postage needs to be large letetr or packet rate, and i tend to use 2nd class to keep costs down.

Thank you for that, could you pm me the site or put a link up.

Sorry to sound dull but how would I know if it was a large letter or packet rate, would it be a case of just checking royal mail website.

The size of the packet determines the rate- it might be worth wandering into your local PO and ask to see their plastic gauge. However as most clothes tend to expand with air after packing you are almost certainly looking at them all apart from the smallest items, being packets.

This is the seller I use for my mailers- he's maybe a fraction of a penny dearer but the bags are a lovely qualitry and I have had no issues at all with them.

Many thanks, just about to order some, I know the plastic thingy your on about will have a look tomorrow as I'm in town.

    Once again many thanks.
  • I wrap any fabric item in coloured tissue, then use a coloured mailing bag which as Soolin says is waterproof.

Do use the coloured ones though as the grey ones can smell of 'smoke' and may result in an unhappy buyer as they think you sent a smokey item IYSWIM.

I send 2nd class usually, but will happily upgrade (no charge) if a buyer is in a hurry and requests a speedy delivery.

I also use http://www.seajays.org.uk/postage/ to estimate costs.

HTH - good luck! CC xx

I bought some of the grey bags that smelt of 'smoke' once- straight in the bin they went (seller gave me refund). I don't sell so much these days but I tend to use the thick plastic bags (I have some pink, some blue, try not to send men pink ones so often lol), and often will put another layer of wrapping such as bubble wrap, or tissue, just in case. The bags don't tend to get damaged very easily, though they are easy to open to get things out. I also use second class post- some things if you pack flat they can go as large letter however I find the items can shift a little this way, and so better to perhaps fold once more, costs more (as need to go as package) but some buyers seem to prefer this to a crumpled item that has all fallen to bottom of bag!

I use freezer bags to put any clothes in then post in a plastic mailbag.
They push the air out meaning the package is thinner and I can often get away with posting as a large letter.
Buyers seem to like how I package clothes and I get good feedback.

just avoid brown paper for soft items like clothes
    ends up shredded
  • For clothes I just use a brightly coloured mail bag, I use these guys http://www.allpacksolutions.co.uk/section.php?xSec=3 (they also have an eBay store)
  • I use a jiffy bag for most clothing items, and I tape up the opening to ensure it's tamper proof.

If it's a heavier/bulkier item like a coat, then I fold it neatly, wrap it in bubble wrap, and then wrap that in black bin bags.
