Looking for some advice on how much oil heating i will use. I live in a 1 bedroom flat with a total of 5 ( fairly old ) radiators and have the heating on for 5 hours a day at the moment. Have an electric shower and only use the hot water for washing up / shaving.
Grateful for any advice or guesses anyone can make on how much i'll use.
Thanks in advance.

If you're working everyday, I'd say at 5 hours a night, maybe 600 ltrs.0

Cheers, you reckon 600 litres p.a then?
That doesn't seem too bad i suppose0 -
When I lived in a flat just like yours my total gas bill would have worked out at around £30 a month, normally around £15/20 for most of the year but maybe £50/60 during the Winter months. I would also run a little electric heater at times just to keep the warmth closer.
Because of the layout of the flat I had the bed in the front room and three double panelled radiators in it which warmed in no time and had to be switched off intermittently, say after 1 hour's heating, then turned back on after an hour's cooling as the heat was too much. 1 bedders are a dream to heat, which is one of their main advantages. If you're above another flat, considering heat rises, then you're laughing as you'll be getting so much out of your neighbours.
I think your costs should be similar to mine in that I used the gas for instant hot water for washing so if you're using electric for your shower then, despite the oil price shocks recently, you should be ok I would imagine on around 600 ltrs. However, if I were you I would only buy 500 as most oil companies do their 'bargains' at 500 or 900 ltr fills, then consider topping up if you start to run low.
Also don't be conned into buying and installing an electronic measuring system. Either stick a plank of wood into the tank to measure remaining oil or do what I do and climb the tank and shine a light down the hole to see what you've got left or what you've used. Primitive but better than wasting money.0 -
Not worth heating a cylinder of hot water then. Use the kettle to heat what you need for washing up and shave with the kettle too, or use cold water, or get an electric shaver for Christmas!Looking for some advice on how much oil heating i will use. Then to heat your flat? 600 - 900 litres.0
