  • Hi, just read your post and just wanted to warn you that we got a letter from spark saying that our letting agency were taking over but we think it was a scam, because after we were paying spark for about a year we realised they weren't even supplying us! Eon were still supplying us but we had cancelled the direct debit with them so we had red letters from them in the end too. We immediately cancelled the direct debit with spark (they did refund us funnily enough) then we had constant letters telling us we owed them money and debt collector letters! it was a nightmare and we had numerous phone calls wasting our time and money with them sorting it out. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. It turned out our letting agency hadn't even heard of them or knew what we were talking about. If you google spark energy and see that other people have had this experience too. Hope this helps!

I called Spark today to ask for them to at least send me a supply contract detailing my tariff and possible methods of payment - they informed me that Scottish Power have refused to release the supply, and that as I am still being supplied by Scottish Power, have closed my "account".

    Need to call SP tomorrow.

Richie - I KNEW the letting agent must be getting something out of it  - it seems I've managed to escape though...

As others have said, you, by law, are in control - its a scam [ perfectly legal loopohole if no one contests it ] your provider SP will know all about it hence the reason for their block on Spark.

If you get in deep ' deep water ' let me know here and I'll give you the private line and extension number / and / or / email addy of someone with the right level of authority in SP who can help you.

    - and no - I'm nowt to do with SP

Great, guess this letting agent is a bit dodgy too then.

Thanks for your help and your offer to help further if you need to :)

Graeme @ ScottishPower the SP rep is [ was to me when I needed clarification ] a very helpful individual you can find him and his email addy here in #4

Its also worth mentioning if you log into you actual account page you can save money & importantly time by hitting the ' call back ' button, that way they ring you at their cost and you don't have to hang onto the line or get shovelled round different departments listening to sad musak.

    Interesting, thanks :)

As to my original question - is it possible to switch again so soon after switching?
If you were switched without your consent, you should go back to your original supplier and tell them that you were switched without your consent and take it from there.

If you did not consent, then the agent has no right to initiate a transfer.. Plus they are taking a kickback from Spark at your expense.

Got this sorted - the transfer did not go through because I have a 3-tier meter (ComfortPlus White Meter) and not just a standard Economy 7 one.

Set up DD with Scottish Power and emailed my letting agent to inform them of the situation.

Interestingly there was a piece in the "Raw Deal" feature in the Sunday Post about Spark Energy today - not issuing final bills and issuing them incorrectly avoiding to have to refund a credit balance.

    Lucky escape I think.
