Camping/Mobile Homes Bargains - out of high season

Ever since our daughter was born we have found camping holidays to be absolutely ideal for us - pool and playground on your doorstep, she's happy, we're happy.

I'm always interested in other companies accommodation and on our last holiday I had a look at Roan's mobile homes and they were excellent.

Anyway, we have just booked 14 nights (12-26 May) in a 6 birth mobile home, at Spiaggia e Mare in Porto Garibaldi, Adriatic coast, Italy in their out of season 14 nights for 7 deal - cost €203 + €22 booking fee (tents are available at some sites from €105 for 14 nights).

The deal is for April May and September. They offer France, Italy, Croatia and Slovenia.

So it's €225 (that's euros!) compared to Eurocamp's £545.60 at the same site, same dates - no brainer!

Don't be put off by Eurocamp. I've used them a number of times and they are competitive at other times in the summer season.

The website is only in Dutch and German, but if you use Google Chrome as your browser, it gives you translation options instantly.

As a new user, I'm unable to add web addresses, so the name is roan the suffix is .nl for Netherlands and there are 3 w's at the start of the address. If you can work this conundrum out you could grab yourself a bargain! If not.......

Enjoy! and I'd be glad to see postbacks of anyone who uses this tip.

Well done. I did a similar thing the other year, at a campsite in Italy. I booked with a Dutch company and it turned out their half term school holiday was different week to ours, so I got a total bargain. However, it must have been a one-off, as although they are often cheaper than the standard UK companies since then their half term's have been the same week as UK. Hopefully it will differ again another year.

If you are not bound by school terms then you can get some amazing bargains.

Thanks for the heads up re using Google Chrome for an automatic translation.

    Enjoy your cheap hols!

Calcio, many thanks for this, eventually found it!

Just working out how to get there now - its a long drive and hire cars are expensive for proper insurance in Italy (I wonder why?).

A few years ago when our kids were younger we used to book with Canvas holidays. We had strange holidays in our town, 'wakes weeks'early july were start of our summer holidays, kids returned to school mid August (some new starters would be only 3 years old for a couple of weeks)! then we had a week early september (neighbouring town had 5 week at summer and 2 week at september when some friends had their main (cheap) holidays) We used to get a holiday for not much over a £100 in a tent including ferry!

We're flying into Bologna which is not too far away -about £150 for the 3 of us. We'll be going by public transport. I have just written quite a long reply to you, but was timed out and lost it - so this will be the abbreviated version. I'll be putting my route on tripadvisor under calcio24. You could also try Camping San Francesco, Caorle which is near Venice and there are plenty of other offerings under the same deal. Since doing this deal, I've also found rent-a-tent.nl

    Thanks again!
We did Ca Savio nr Venice some years ago through Keycamp, which gave excellent deals in June (no longer - having said that, deals may occour next year).
Ryanair, then a hire car, all in all a very good deal and the cheapest way to do Venice.
Sadly, the ladies no longer have the stamina for public transport so I think that we may have a leisurely drive down to either Garda or Rome or both.
  • Just found this as a comparison Camping Bella Italia Peschiera, Lake Garda - a particularly popular site -12 May -14 days mobile home-
    Eurocamp £575.45
    Canvas £880.80
    Keycamp £507.20
    roan.nl €343.00
I know there's add-ons and take offs with all of these, but worth a thought...

We've an outing tomorrow with the couple that we normally go with.
Sadly, two of us have aged more than the others and are now making strong comments about the distance (don't like the cattle markets that are airports).

These companies and sites that you've found are really spot on - it makes you wonder how the likes of Eurocamp survive (I tried a spoof booking via their Dutch website (Eurocamp) and its the same high price as the UK).

Its looks like that I have two choices, Shearings Coach Holidays or I tag along with you.

Been with these people and whilst they have there own sites, they also use the big ones used by Key and Canvas. Plus at the moment get 100 euro off.
We have found they are cheaper because the european school hols are different to ours....so when we go the prices are off peak for us. The back end of summer holidays is much cheaper as there kids are back at school.

Ca'savio in Italy was about £300 less than Canvas. Go to France and its even better!

have any of you considered using Venue??
They are a similar company to eurocamp/keycamp (who are the same company!!!) and the others like canvas etc. But they are much smaller, so dont have the range of the bigger companies. However we've found them to be much cheaper than keycamp etc when they are at teh same site.

We booked a tent for £153 for last May half term. Was meant to be booked at berny riviere site near Paris, but to due a MAJOR mess up on my part, we were actually booked into a site almost in Spain. Mistake was only realised when I received the final confirmation weeks before departure. Ferry etc was all booked around us staying on the site near Paris. And as hubby is the only driver, we looked stuffed. I called venue who were wonderful, Sorted us out without any admin costs or extra charges. We couldn't get onto the berny riviere site, as all the tents were full, but we were offered an alternative that was better than what I'd booked in error. Very good customer service.

Another company to consider are vacansoleil, am sure there are others but cant think of the names. There is definatly another dutch one. edited to say teh dutch one was prob roan mentioned in first post.
