Phones Aussie style?

Is it the same procedure to unlock a phone (a Samsung) bought in Oz and now wanting to be used in Italy? Is the EMEI number under the battery as usual? If not how can it be found. Secondly, the owner of this phone has bought a local sim in Italy but when she tries to use the sim, it asks for a number of pieces of info before finally asking for the " password" which she apparently doesn't have and never did know! Can anyone help? Is the problem that the phone needs unlocking or is it that she doesn't have a "password"? Lastly does anyone know if there is a similar brilliant site to this that this young lady's parents can access to obtain override providers for phoning their daughter from Australia to Italy where she will be for the next 6 months. Thanks, all help appreciated.:T

the imei can be found under the battery or by keying in*#06#, and the phone will most likely have to be unlocked

Thanks for that gaming_guy, do you know if there is a specific site to get the details to unlock sasungs? I've only ever done Nokias and they are easy?:o

TEMPORARY UNLOCK:
Put a non-accepted Simcard and turn it on. Type *#9998*3323#. Press Exit. You will get a new menu. Select Malloc Fail.
