Pure Honest Orange Broadband Customers PLEASE

Hello,

I am switching to Orange Broadband as I am already a customer with them for my Blackberry 9700 - and they've offered me a deal including my already existing contract for £30 each month.

I've read equal amount of positive and negative reviews of Orange and my usual thought is people only tend to write reviews to complain and if they have no issues clearly don't just make a post saying orange are perfect blah blah blah.

I want some honest advice and not just angry customers - So I want to hear from all those Orange Broadband customers of your experiences.
I shall only be using Orange Broadband for online gaming on World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2. Nothing else "Not, even general browsing"

My neighbour is with Orange for broadband. His connection was down for 4 days recently, caused by a faulty router. Fair-dos to Orange - they arranged a replacement very quickly.

Horange are consistently rated at or near the bottom in consumer surveys. The only possible reason for choosing them is if they are cheaper (and then I still wouldn't). What are your LLU options?

Orange don't support Online Gaming,so if you're looking your ping time adjusted, forget it.They're binning the LLU service & moving to BT WBC (Cen21) & IP Stream Max so the majority of tech support for 1st line faults will be done by off shore call centers, anything else will be done by BT & a small contingent of Orange 2nd line tech support in the UK.
Generally the UK tech support is fine, the offshore ones generally don't have a clue & just use the PC Knowledge Base called Guru that is provided.Orange also can only provide basic support for non-Orange supplied equipment (Modems/Routers/Wireless Dongles) along the lines of contact the manufacturer.
As you're an Orange customer for your mobile, you can call them for free otherwise they're a 0844 number.
I'm not an Orange customer myself, but my observations above are what I gained earlier in the year when working for Orange in 2nd line Tech Support on a temp contract.

I've just spoke to next door, who I found have Orange Broadband and just ran a speed test and its 14Mb down and 800Kbs up... So speed seems to be fine.

Had Orange Broadband for 3 days now.. Not angry.. just disappointed.

Customer service was helpful and available, although everything always happened on the last day of when they said it would.

I'm meant to have upto 6Mbps and lucky if I get 2Mbps in the day and 0.5Mbs in the evening.

Went with them because they were cheap - and having definite buyers remorse... Feel like I'm back in the days when everyone was getting broadband, and I was stuck on dial up.

I know this isn't the objective view that you're looking for, but when you can get an alternative for probably the price of a couple of cups of coffee a month, I can't recommend them.

I can't imagine why anyone seeking a budget option would chose Orange over, say Plusnet, as long as they're not on a Market 1 or 2 exchange. Orange is now just another BT reseller-what's the point?

Have to agree with macman and Spike re orange Im with them but get a great deal for broadband only with 2nd line (old Package)

2 free phone numbers for orange 0800 29456 12 & 0800 07901 34 one of which is the executive office in the UK for Orange, can't remember which.
  • I've been with Orange for years, ever since the freeserve and wanadoo days.

In all that time the service has been down for about 4 hours in total.

My line speed is just 2Mb, but that's due to my distance from the exchange.

I can get a higher speed if I go with say Virgin, but the speed does me fine. I'm not an online gamer and so don't need exceptional internet speeds.

There are two main reasons I'm with them.

    1. As it comes as part of my mobile package. To be honest, when negotiating a mobile contract with Orange every 18 months, they don't really take the home broadband into account and it seems to just be left on the account at no charge.

    2. I work from home and so I don't want to change my internet provider if there are likely to be problems / delays in getting connected.

I personally have no problem with Orange; however you really only find out how good a company is when there is an issue.

Someone I know switched to Talk Talk about 6 months ago and had no problems at all; however if you read the forums, you find that a lot of people bemoan Talk Talk and would never touch them again. I was thinking of switching to them, but couldn't be bothered with the hassle if it all went wrong.

Good luck in your decision making...
