Heating System advice.

Lets not forget one of the other ' snake oil ' heating systems often appearing in these threads, that of Fisher this company also uses the home visit [ direct selling ] method, they also have a wild claim to save 50-60% of your electricity costs but offer no evidence to back that assertion. They don't even tell how much their units cost, that's another secret until they have your signature and your deposit in their hands.
This Forum is called MSE, occasional argument about the efficacy of one system over another is an inevitable and indeed welcome method of getting behind the claims and discovering the truth of what is fact and what is pure fiction.
However where wild and unsubstantiated claims are made for a product we should speak out and stop the myth, that's the whole purpose of MSE, and why Martin set it up in the first place.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Based on facts the forum is a useful source of advice. My advice was factual based on experience. Other people have posted a load of tittle tattle based on Googling. The idea that you have to have a Farho rep call and con you into a signature and use their own installers is a classic example. I borrowed a test radiator from the wholesaler and trialed it for a week in different rooms. I liked it and bought a system for the rest of the house direct from the wholesaler and wall mounted them myself. No installation is even necessary. As long as you can plug in a plug into a socket you're laughing.:)
I'm not substantiating any wild claims by the manufacturer - I'm just stating that they do the job better than any other non-gas central heating that I've tried.:A0 -
I love this site and these forums.
The only thing I don't like is that people will voice their opinions on here in such a way that they would never do in real life. Where's the respect people? Arguing your case is great but you can be nice about it.
Anyway, thanks to the advice given on here I went and bought a load of convection heaters and timers which will heat the whole house. Spent £160 in total and will install them this weekend.
I'm a woman by the way! Another bug bear of mine on here is that everyone assumes I'm a man..... especially when I comment about Mrs Ging :-)
Thanks all x0 -
If it makes you feel better I'm very rude to stupid people in real life as well and never assumed that you were a man.:)0

I predict a post coming up about shocking high energy bills, in their new house in the country (having turned their previous house into a BTL).0

The trouble is finding a heater that is going to be attractive yet not cost the earth to buy or to run. It's a matter of compromise. I have a marble radiator in one room in my cottage and supposedly that has some storage element (inherent in the marble) so the heating element is only for 15 mins in the hour. Do you think this is true? It certainly seems cheaper to run than a simple fan heater. Now we are looking at an electric heater for the kitchen: do we go for night storage, marble radiator (hugely expensive to buy these days) or this:
Winterheat-Nero-1.5kw-Glass-Panel-Heater-Black
available from QVC for approx £70. (not allowed to post links)
?
I have gas to an HS gas stove in the sitting room, but didn't install gas central heating because of the pipes snaking everywhere in a listed building.
I need heat in the kitchen (modern extension, quite well insulated) for an hour or so in the morning and maybe three or so in the evening. I'm interested to know what you would do and why.0
