Heating System advice.

My head is hurting from trawling through the internet on this one.
We need a new heating system.
Gas - No gas in road
LPG/Oil - to expensive to run
Solid fuel burner - expensive to put in and we don't want to be stoking the fire every few hours!
Electric boiler - quote of £6500 for this and new rads.
Am I better off keeping our immersion heater and tank for water and then just getting plug in radiators fitted?

If you don't want high capital outlay your idea of emersion and portable heaters is the cheapest.
An alternative is a wood pellet boiler, but you need room for a fuel store.
You could also consider a whole house ventilation system using a wood burner as principle source of heat. Heat from the room with the wood burner is distributed around the house using a heat recovery system.0 -
I always recommend http://www.farhouk.co.uk/
Cost about two grand to fit a three bedroom house (if you install them yourself) and you can get a control panel to use them like normal central heating. They give off impressive heat and are fairly economical to run.0 -
But are they any better than a simple convection heater?
I bought the other day a 2kw convection heater for £10. A 2kw radiator from these guys seems to be around £500 inc. VAT.
What would be the difference (other of course than the appearance)?
Not trying to be difficult, just to choose the best option for our budget.
Thanks, Ging x0 -

Or you could buy £40 oil filled heaters (wall mountable) from Argos and use plug in timers (~£10 each).
£50 per room (maybe 2 needed in a very large room) and you're job done!

Also, are oil filled better than convection?
Sorry for all the questions!0 -

Sorry for all the questions!:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

£2000 for a few Dimplex style heaters, rip off.
All electric heaters of equivalent wattage cost the same to run and give out the same heat. 'Impressive heat and economical to run' is an oxymoron when it comes to electric heating.0 -
Can you get oil filled that hang on the wall and are a decent wattage?0

Yes I can!
I think we'll probably go for convection though.0 -
gingernutbizkit,
Fahro / Ecotrol is snake oil, they are as expensive as a real and modern E7 setup, which will its dislike [rs] .. .. .. at least works
Some reading here and here Fahro / Ecotrol as you have already realised are cheaper to run because they are lower kWh panels ~ simple ~as ~ that ~ anything even your £10 fan heater or convector or 2 bar electric fire can cost half the price if you only switch the output to 50%. Why do you think Fahro / Ecotrol ' do a home visit to get a signature, and insist on their own installers ?
All electrical heating is 100% efficient and as you say apart from appearance a £10 fan heater or convector or 2 bar electric fire gives out exactly the same heat for the same running cost as one of their £500 quid jobs. Its been proven time and time again on these boards. I do worry how many vulnerable people get suckered into buying this hype nonsense with no scientific data for their claims. The fact of the matter is they are an excellent product for those parts of the world they were designed for - Spain - Tunisia etc, no use whatsoever for this climate we live in .. .. .. even if you have already have the luxury of a 100% efficiency rating on insulation and double glazing.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
