You're quite right, you did explain the little control experiment you did to be sure that the problem wasn't something else that happened at the same time as purchasing the block.
I think people are struggling to understand the problem, it is a little odd. Certainly not seen anything like it before.0 -
I have always used bleach cistern blocks - they make very little difference to the viscosity of the water (ex lab technician, and I used to test liquids for viscosity so trust me on that one)
One thing I can think of is that somehow the flush volume has become reduced and it now won't flush as much?
Have you put a water saving device in your cistern? Is it a modern loo (ie lower volume cistern?)
Since we had the new bathroom installed we have occasionally had this problem.
Anyway they only last a month. Try not using one at all - see how it goes; try a different brand.
Equally it could be due to a change in the nature of the solids. Diet changed at all?
As I said in my first post I removed the block and flushed the cistern until the water was clear, the problem stopped when I didn't use the block, but returned when I started using it again.
The cistern is a couple of years old, but not a dual flush, it does not have a water saver in it as newer cisterns have a reduced volume of water anyway, which has never presented a problem until now.
My diet has not changed recently and I do not have any dietary problems.0 -
I use both the Asda cistern block and their smartprice rim block with no problems. I could perhaps see an issue if someone put the cistern block in the pan but can't see how putting one in the cistern would affect anything.0

could it be that the cistern block is/was sitting over the water outlet, so when you flushed not enough water was passing through? which would explain why it would flush correctly after removing the block.0

No it has to be placed at the side of the ballcock at the opposite side of the water outlet.0 -
The block is reducing the flush volume, if it works OK without the block take it out.0

Might be another barmy idea of mine, but could you cut the block in half and see how it works then, so the water is still blue but the thing isn't so big it takes up water space?
I did think at first that it might be the paper of the block had somehow got stuck in the water outlet to the bowl and might be slowing the water down?

Your new cistern block,
Or me for having a word,
You just seem miffed,
Cos your poo won't shift,
But you can't blame Asda for a stubborn turd.:rotfl:0
