ASDA Cistern Block - Toilet not clearing properly.

I have always used a rim block, but I got tired of having to reposition it as it moved it's way around the pan, and I never knew right away when it had run out so I thought I would use a cistern block instead, that way I could see when it needed replacing.

So I purchased the ASDA chosen by you cistern block and have had a big problem, for some reason solids do not flush away, I have to resort to putting loads of toilet tissue in to the pan before flushing to clear it, took out the block and let the water run clear and the problem has gone, put it back in and the problem returned.

Am I the only person who has had this problem with this brand?, having never used cistern blocks before I was wondering if I would get better results with another brand.

When you say solids don't flush away, are these solids from the cistern block, or solids introduced by you and your family.

If the former, then the block is working as it should, if the latter, then you should address the dietary requirements of you and your family.

I bought some of these cistern blocks the other week much to OH's amusement. I wondered why he'd followed me to the bathroom sniggering until I remembered we had our bathroom re-fitted 2 years ago and I can't get to the cistern anymore without removing the work surface.

hows a cistern block going to stop your solids from flushing as all a cistern block does is discharge a small amount of bleach into the water when you flush

Okay to be blunt when I say solids I mean fecal matter, there is nothing wrong with my diet and if you had paid attention to my first post you would realise that the problem is being caused by the cistern block, as there is no problem when it is not being used.

I suspect it may be because when it flushes it creates an awful lot of foam which might be reducing the force of the water making it harder to clear the pan, or it could be something to do with changing the viscosity or density of the water, all I know is the problem only happens when I use that brand cistern block.

I only raised this to see if anyone else was having the same problem with this particular product, I really didn't expect my integrity or toilet habits to be questioned and since none of you apparently use this brand I don't see why you are replying.

I have always used bleach cistern blocks - they make very little difference to the viscosity of the water (ex lab technician, and I used to test liquids for viscosity so trust me on that one)

One thing I can think of is that somehow the flush volume has become reduced and it now won't flush as much?

Have you put a water saving device in your cistern? Is it a modern loo (ie lower volume cistern?)
Since we had the new bathroom installed we have occasionally had this problem.

Anyway they only last a month. Try not using one at all - see how it goes; try a different brand.

Equally it could be due to a change in the nature of the solids. Diet changed at all?
