    Hi salthepal,

Not sure if this will sway your decision, but because Madasafish and Plusnet are sister companies we can move you from one to the other within 24 hours with no downtime (it's just a matter of adding the Plusnet connection realm to your line, which can be done overnight without interrupting your connection).
    Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Plusnet. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"

I thought company reps weren't allowed to tout for business? ;)

Technically I guess it isnt touting as the OP is already with the company? Just technically mind. :)

But OP is with a sister company. i.e. they have the same parent but trade as separate entities. Hence the post is a subtle form of touting. ;)
  • A friend has just told me that she used to be with plusnet and had to change to BT!! to avoid lots of email spam. Years ago I was with lineone which also loaded my email box with spam and I don't want this to happen again.
Incidentally what will happen to my email address when I change?
    Thanks again.

Why exactly do you think receiving spam has anything to do with any particular ISP?

When you change your internet provider they cease to have any responsibility to provide you with the services, such as email, for which you previously paid. Unless they have a specific policy otherwise the ISP is entitled to terminate the email account immediately. They may allow you to continue using it for a limited or indefinite period of time or they may not.

Because when I changed to freenetname, spam had been already junked by them and the problem did not continue.

    a) I assume you mean that freenetname had a spam checker that deleted emails before they got to you.

    b) That's fine if that's what you want but you have to be careful that these things don't delete non-spam emails by mistake and leave you with no way to access them.

    c) If you want an ISP that has that functionality why were you even considering other ISPs?

Because it is expensive and has a very low download limit. Plusnet and O2 offer more for less.

Got a nice call from O2, Seems we have been going over the unlimited download limit.

When i switched to 02 a couple of years ago I specifically told them we would be very heavy users.

I tinker with computers almost 24/7. Kids all download music and videos and play games. One will be on
youtube see something good then send the link to the room next door and it gets downloaded again on
    another PC.
Then they will download again to show us or friends.

Installing windows on machines and doing tons of updates, Soon add up.

Are they all capping or warning us now?

We live so far from the exchange the speed is rubbish, We know that and unless we move that wont change anytime soon.

So how can our usage affect other users experiences of the service?

Bit miffed i did tell them we were heavy users when i signed up. Didnt say its only so granny can send short text only emails.

    Any alternatives?
