Hi, bought something from ebay for a friend back in August. Had it sent to his house. All was fine for a few weeks then the item developed a fault.
Contacted seller who said to send it back for repair and gave me an address, which i passed onto my friend so he could send it back.
Couple of weeks went by, friend was getting impatient. Asked me to message seller to see how repair was going. Seller claimed he hadnt received it back.
Contacted friend who said he had sent it back by Special Delivery and according to Royal Mail it had been delivered and signed for the following day.
Messaged the seller back with these details and the name that had signed for it last friday but no reply as yet. Have just messaged him again to see what's going on.
I got his name and contact details from ebay to see if his name matched the person that signed for it but it just comes up as the company name and the phone number is all 0's
I thought you had to provide a valid phone number to ebay?
Anyway if i get no reply from seller how do i go about solving this. Surely i cant claim off Royal Mail as the item was delivered and i cant claim from ebay as the item was originaly received
Item was worth approx £50

you are outside Ebay claim times anyway
I dont know why you would even mention RM given they have done what was required
you would be looking at small claims
is the trader still trading on eBay?0 -

Doesn't Ebay give 60 days to open a dispute?
(which would mean that depending on WHEN they bought it in August, there might still be time...)
Perhaps phone Ebay and explain the situation to them, and point out the lack of phone number!
If they can't help, then small claims court is the way to go, starting with a "Letter Before Action".
How much was it?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
It's 45 days to open a dispute.
If it's a business seller, there's a legal requirement to have their trading address & telephone number on all their listings.0 -
I think a phone call to ebay, Explaining the item was returned tracked yet the seller refuses to repair or refund.
Also point out the sellers contact details are not correct.
Failing that, Small claims.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
" If it's a business seller, there's a legal requirement to have their trading address & telephone number on all their listings."
I believe there isn't a legal requirement to display a contact number (which is why it's optional in the business seller info section on each listing) but the seller should have the correct number registered with eBay.
OP report the seller via the link on this page for false details:
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/identity-false.html
and request them again after a week and if they've updated then you can call them, other than this it's either the small claims court or trading standards for further advice. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
Hi, just to update i have had a reply from the seller this morning saying that he will send a replacement out.
No mention of what happened to the other one though.
Hopefully this one will work fine and i wont have to contact him again but do you think i should still report him for having no phone number?Errrr...come back later0 -
I would not report the seller until you have the issue resolved or should you need to actually phone them, best not to annoy them, after the issue is resolved by all means report the seller, I would. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0
