Did you check if It's covered on insurance. Same happened to me when the car was unlocked an the sunroof was open, I think I paid a small excess and the sent out autoglass. Not counted as a claim.

Are you sure? It may not affect your no claims bonus but it may be considered as a claim. I claimed on my previous insurers in January 2010 for door window glass, paid the £60 excess, no claims not affected. But it is stated as a claim on this years renewal. I have just changed insurers and had to declare it, it increased the premium by an extra £8 odd.

Always try the local independents! I got quoted £430 by Autoglass & got all the spiel. I had a £100 excess on my insurance but found a local guy to do it for £135... basically cost me £35 & I didn't tell my insurance co so no loading on my premium.

Autoglass & the like sell it well but charge a mint & don't tell you the full story!

This is poor advice and should be ignored.

With most insurers a glass replacement claim does not affect your NCD (though Swiftcover do stop your NCD for the year in which the claim is made).

But it is a claim, will go on your record, and must be declared to future insurers.

It is counted as a claim, Read posts on her people failed to declare a glass claim and were charged more or
    threats to cancel the policy.

I found a local independent glass fitter was half the price of the big nationals. Turned out to be a really nice guy - who used to be the foreman at one of the local nationals!

If its a side window, consider a scrapyard?

I had a rear 1/4 light in the rear door done in twice.

First time did it on the insurance excess etc. too them about 15mins to fit.

Second £10 from car recycler of the shelf.

Took a couple of hours to fit(no manual) but next time will be much quicker now I know what i am doing and will be more care full with the screws(2) they are sods to get from inside a door.

If its a side window on a door you can get the glass from a scrapyard, remove the door panels and slide it in place.

It its a fixed window your best off finding a local independant. I once needed to get my windscreen replaced, insurance excess would have been £80 and registered as a claim, the big nationals were quoting £400-500, in the end got a local windscreen fitters to do it for £150.

Have you discussed this with your insurer?

If so then they will have noted this on your record as an incident which you will now have to declare to any new insurer you go to for a quote.
