Capital One Classic Card

Hi all,

Just been looking on the Credit Card advice section. I'm looking at getting the Capital One Classic card to help build up my credit score. It says it comes with 6 months 0% but when I follow the link given, the next site says the 0% only lasts till December this year?

Does anyone know anything about this? or recently got one and can confirm the 0% lasts longer than December?

Also, if anyone knows any other companies that provide cards for people who dont have fantastic credit with a decent amount of 0% time I'd much appreciate any advice.

Thanks

I don't know, but i'm anoyed, as I signed up in August, but was only given a 3month 0% - as was previously advertised on this site. It seems it's now 6 months according to Martin's team

The reason I want it is to pay car insurance while I'm waiting on some money coming in, shouldnt be too long but need the insurance so 6 months at 0% is fine. Think I might check my credit file as its been a while so things might have improved and I might be better applying for a different card
  • My partner has just got this card. To my knowledge, it's 0% for 6 months from the date you are accepted. Could you post a link to the page that tells you it's only until December?

Checking your credit file and applying for a better card might be a good idea. Because the Capital One card accepts people with very low credit scores, if you are rejected for another card it shouldn't affect your application for the Capital One Classic.

Hi, here is the link - http://www.totallymoney.com/credit-cards/

Thats a good idea about applying for something better first. Last time I checked my score I think it was about 400, that was about a year ago. Since then I have registered on the Electoral Roll and I've never missed a payment on my phone contract and just renewed it so hopefully it might have gone up some more.

I wouldn't pay the extra to check your score (its not worth the money)- but it might be worth looking at your credit file to see what is on there.

If you click from the totally money page onto the capital one classic website it does show 0% until May 12. (Actually when I clicked through from the MSE link it directed straight through to the capital one website, didn't actually load up the totallymoney page).

Nice one! I thought the same. I was already a member on Experian so its another 15 quid to rejoin. I may as well apply and if its successful then I know I'm on the right track. Cheers for that

Thanks for the link. Yes, it does appear it is outdated, so the card shout be alright for you.

Couldn't agree more. If you already had a free trial with Experian, try another one with Equifax. Forget the credit score numbers, they don't mean anything. Just make sure your report is okay. But don't bother paying for it - It's just not worth it when there are so many '1 month free trials' knocking around.
  • Does anyone know how long it takes to hear back from capital one? I applied for this card last week and was not given instant decision. It said if we need any more information we will notify you within 7-10 days. I did note make note of the application number as i expected a general email but i have heard nothing. Has anyone else waited this long for a decision? Thanks.

I applied for the 5% cashback card and got an instant decision of "Denied". Since then I've had 2 mailings from them in the last week of pre-approved offers with pre-printed application forms and freepost reply envelopes, all of which got instantly eaten by my shredder and used as cat bedding.

So I'd say that they are normally pretty quick. Unless of course I'm just experiencing the marketing department.
  • Thanks for replying.
Think I'll be loooking elsewhere as I would have expected an email to at least acknowledge my application.
