See bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-15125064 in which SNP's Nicola Sturgeon explains how people are being enticed by these discounts to buy and drink 3 bottles of wine together instead of one. Presumably, buying a crate of beer instead of one can doesn't have the same effect (the thirst must be affected by the cardboard container). In terms of the discount, it depends if Asda insist on the price being available in your local Tesco, I suppose - which of course it won't be. Anyone tried it in Scotland?
Laughable, isn't it? Had a wee chuckle over the licencing laws myself this weekend when I had to book a delivery slot for after 10am to get a crate of beer delivered...I'm sure preventing people from drinking in that crucial hour from 9-10am will make all the difference in reducing the alcohol problem. Little do they know about the 10 bottles of vodka and gin in my cupboard *muHAHAAA*
I've also had my eye on the Vino Albali that someone mentioned earlier, but really can't afford to buy it unless I get a voucher back.
Could anyone in Scotland kindly let us know if they've tried JTD since the new law's come in?

For JTD does the wine have to be the same brand as sold in Asda or do they compare it to similar one, eg any rose? Never used the Tesco price checker before so unsure.0

Asda are selling Taittinger reserve Brut for £20.00 a bottle.
Tesco's online have it for £25.64 a bottle. I think it may be more in store ?
Does any body know if the JTD would work on Champagne ?0 -
I'm new to all this glitching, so am I right to think that to get a JTD voucher, you put your receipt into the tesco pricechecker, and because the items are checked against asda on your receipt, tescos send you a voucher/coupon for the difference between the tesco price and asda price. Is it a voucher/coupon you have to print out, and if so are they accepted in tesco on any shopping or are there conditions to using them.
Thanks
Go to https://www.tescopricecheck.com/PriceCheck/Pages/StoreCompare/Default.aspx
Enter receipt details as per instructions on screen
Wait until the following day (usually) but sometimes 36 hours or longer but you should get an email with a link to follow
The link shows the comparison between Tesco & Asda
If Tesco was dearer you'll see a button saying "Print Voucher"
Do as the computer tells you and print it
Usual restrictions apply ie.. no ciggies, no baby formula, no petrol, no lottery, no gift cards (though quite a few have been successful in the past using the vouchers to buy a gift card)
You have 28 days to use the voucher hence people buying gift cards to stockpile or use when they want to not when they have to.shabby_chic wrote: »For JTD does the wine have to be the same brand as sold in Asda or do they compare it to similar one, eg any rose? Has to be same brand & size e.g. a 750ml Blossom Hill won't compare against a 750ml Jacobs Creek. Sometimes own brands will compare but there's no guarantees. Even if Asda stock the item, Tesco won't always pricecheck especially if they'll lose a lot of money from it (read various posts on Tesco moving the goalposts).0 -

Thank you for taking the time to explain JTD. Really appreciate it.2016 is the year I am going to find time for me, and cherish the time I spend with my friends and family. It is also time to save - Aim £4,000 - So far this year - £230/£4,0000 -

Any time. We were all wet behind the ears once!
Just be careful though as Tesco will comapre your whole basket so if you buy something on offer at Ts that is unlikely to be on offer at Asda at the same time then any savings you made in Ts will be deducted from the excess charged compared to Asda if that makes sense. Best thing to do is what we all did in the old DTD days and that is to split your shopping into 2 transactions (or more if you will exceed the £20 JTD cap currently in place). One shop should be where Asda is cheaper, your second shop should be where Tesco is cheaper.
For reference, DTD is the same scheme except they gave double the difference - problem was the folk on here were far too savvy and made a mint from big price differences. There is still another DTD on the go whereby if you are charged the wrong price in-store, they will refund you double the difference e.g. if you bought 3 bottles of wine at £6 each but the label said 3 for £12 then you'd expect to pay £12. If the deal hasn't worked, more likely because an offer has finished but no-one has taken down the sign, they *should* give you DTD back. This means:
overcharged by > 3 x £6 = £18 - £12 = £6
they give you back £6 x 2 = £12
Total was £18, DTD was £12 so you actually paid £6 for 3 bottles.0 -

Yes, it definitely works on champagne. I had a £10 voucher a little while ago, when the Heisedeck (? spelling) champagne was giving 750 points extra. Asda had it on special for £10 less than Mr. T at the same time. Tried it once to check if it would work, then did a two-bottle purchase to get the max voucher amount. Give it a go!0 -

Asda and Tesco have both stuck to the promotion but gone about it a different way. Asda have bottles for £3.33 and Tesco have certain bottles at £4....Majestic wines are also offering bottles of wine at what the English promotional price would work out at0
