But if I left them to sort a slow puncture and asked them to replace the driver side front when it was actually the drivers side rear, something they could spot themselves, I wouldn't expect them to change the wrong one, I'd expect them to use a bit of sense.
Likewise if someone comes in with a non-starter I wouldn't assume they know exactly what the fault is. RAC patrols are not experts and the OP has admited they know nothing either.
Before fitting an expensive part, I'd expect them to have a look for something obvious, or a common fault, especially if they are an expert indy.

That's the "karma" you get for conning the RAC, your suppose to have breakdown cover before you breakdown, not go and join after you have broken down :rotfl: :rotfl:ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0 -
for a start a cam shaft sensor is only £40 to buy to public so itl be alot less for trade so £144 is a bit excessive and 644quid for a service i would want liquid gold put in the engine for that dont go to bmw they are double expensive just pick a reputable garage locally they can put it on a diagnostics for around £30 and pinpoint problem
rac are clowns they dont fix problems they just want to get you off the road0 -
all the rac do is plug in the diagnostics computer and see what error codes are stored..
they fiddled about with my coil pack when my corsa wouldnt start. he said replace the coil pack.. i didnt feel confident in his diagnosis.. in the end it was the Headgasket that was failing hence the random not starting leave it a bit then would start..Sealed pot challenger # 10

I did not con the rac. It was explained to me that if you join and you've already had an accident, you have to wait 24 hours before you can contact them.. otherwise it costs a lot more.
I hope you get the karma you deserve by laughing at someone elses misfortune. You prat.0 -
All in all, a lesson learned. Thank you for your responses. I think my car should be fixed by tonight. It turrned out to be the timing belt. Costing 1,130.00 pounds... i know... ouch.0

Just received a call from BMW who say that they fitted the timing belt, but they have now discovered another huge problem. The whole cylinder is damaged and they need another 5,000 pounds to fit a new one. I'm in shock. So, to get the car back, its going to cost over 6k. The car is only worth 4k. Or 5k at the most.
I'm not sure what to do now. What would you do? I simply dont have 5k. And in paying the 1,130 for work already done, it will take me to my credit card max.0 -
car not drivable by the way. They're saying its best from a safety point of view, to have RAC tow car back home the three miles. I am in bits.0

As far as i'm aware all BMW 1 series have timing chains not belts.
There have been problems with tensioners disintegrating on 4 cylinder petrol engines, and some were repaired but not on a full recall basis (keep 'em in the dark eh?).
Suggest you sit down with a nice cuppa and peruse BMWland forum, there you will find good advice and hopefully someone there has had some good results with getting some sort of goodwill from BMW.
Feel for you matey.
If you have to foot the bill, you'll be better off putting another engine in from a crashed car....either way you can find a good specialist indy from that excellent forum.0 -
Sorry none of this makes any sense, firstly the original garage would have noticed that the timing chain was either broke or disintergrating when they supposedly fitted the cam sensor, now im not saying they did but im wondering if on fitting the cam sensor they either dropped a bolt or something down into the timing chain area resulting in damage when engine was restarted, secondly if its a diesil i know that they have problems with swirl flaps in the inlet manifold and these fall out into engine and its goodbye engine this is a major issue with some bmw engines.
If the timing chain has broke and this was the original problem this would of been evident immediately evident i think bmws are chain driven not cambelt however i maybe wrong.i would also ask if it was cambelt and not chain surely the bmw agent would know that this is a interference engine and that pistons hit valves etc. I would ask also if it is belt and not chain what are the recommended intervals for a new belt have these been adhered to and if its been serviced by BMW agent in all the time youve had it why havent they advised you on its service life etc. However i still smell a rat on the orignal cam sensor fitting if its anywhere near the cambelt or camchain id put money on it they dropped something into the area and failed to remove it. and if it is in the area of the belt/chain why didnt they spot the belt had bust anyway this is certainly got a smell to it.
And yes bmw four pot engines i know are £6k ive replace quite a few with swirl flap problems0
