bleugh.... no there is no such thing as a decent hotdog. They are all made with a***holes and eyelids (sorry to be so graphic but all of them are really nasty). Just think what they have to do to it to provide it for 50p and still make a profit?

Well I haven't come across any decent frankfurters in this country for ten years or so. Sainsbury's use to sell real German franks in a taller tin. There were not cheap as you could see real minced meat in them and had a fairly tough (natural?) skin. I used to get them for easy catering on yachting trips (no fridge).

Neither an English sausage nor bockwurst and certainly not a vegetarian option makes anything like a real hot dog.

Try and find a real delicatessen.

Whilst I am pontificating. I will add that a pie has both a pastry top and a pastry bottom..... now I'm off to choir.

Fun thing to do with hotdog sausages - slice them up, stick some spagetti through them, cook spagetti as normal. Hotdog monsters for your bolognaise! :D
This is not an automated signature - I type this after every post.

But it is true - all the bits that you think would be thrown away are minced until they are unrecogniseable and used in such foods.

It is my pet hate when people try to make something as vile as possible just because they don't agree with it.. Many people on here made their point without being so vile..

I used to love real hotdogs but haven't had one in years, since learning what goes in them. I was also vegetarian from around 1991 - 2003, and tried the vegetarian ones. They are great, and taste very similar. DS (veggie from birth in 1994 til very recently) has never had a meat one and will only eat top notch sausages. OH liked meat ones when he moved in, but stopped eating them suddenly when I told him what's in them.

sorry that I offended you. But if people knew what went into their food they would be shocked. If you think thatis vile you should go round an abbatoir/ chicken farm/ pig farm... that truly is vile.

Never tried making these, as not a great fan of hotdogs.
