The strikes seem to be a bit meaningless, tbh. I've had several buyers approach me with, "I can't seem to buy your item, because I have too many NPB strikes, but I promise I will pay straight away this time, blah, blah, blah..." I ignore them, but then lo and behold, a new buyer appears and buys the item anyway. I do have my buyer preferences set to exclude new/low feedback buyers without a credit card on file, so that wards off some of them, but in general it seems that if you get too many NPB strikes, just open a new eBay account and away you go - so no wonder buyers don't fear them.
Totally agree about strikes being meaningless - in the past I have actually encountered a buyer (blocked, for having too many strikes) say they thought ebay "like it" if people bid and don't pay, otherwise they wouldn't have removed the ability for buyers to get negative feedback!0 -

Your post makes no sense really?
Why is it meaningless if you have actually encountered a buyer who was blocked for having too many strikes- that is the point of them surely?
I do full NPB on my buyers for two reasons, firstly to recover my fees but also to stop serial time wasters from rampaging through ebay- so if it works surely that is a good thing?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I think the poster above meant that it works only to a point - it doesn't stop NPBers from opening a new account and buying from you, but it does make it slightly more inconvenient for them than just clicking "Buy It Now".They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -

Sorry, yes, that's basically what I meant - buyers basically saying it's a mere inconvenience, rather than having much lasting effect. As they can just open another account.0 -

whaaaa?!
what gain is there for ebay if people bid and dont pay? Sellers get their fee's back anyways.
the madness of buyers is bemusing0 -
I'm convinced it has something to do with the shopping basket feature that has now been rolled out completely. I noticed an increase in NPBs when they started trialling the basket and now its even worse since its been rolled out. I currently have 7 unpaid cases open within the last couple of days with another 7 that haven't paid yet from between a few days to over a week (I give them 2 weeks before I open the case so they have plenty of time!)I never used to get any non payers at all, but I seme plauged by them at the moment and I am getting angry quite out of proportion to the problem.
My automated unpaid assistant also seems to have decided to go part time! It rarely raises the cases for me now and I find I have to do them manually most of the time.0 -

Your post is very useful thank you as it also addresses another issue I have. I have turned on the unpaid assistant thingy and it never works- I have to manually open each time. I have checked and rechecked and it is definitely set to open at 4 days- but nothing happens.
Your shopping basket theory might also be worth considering as I never used to have any NPBs. However at least one of my current non payers has only ever bid on my items- although he did bid on 2 (both unpaid) so maybe that defaulted to the shopping cart as well?
I was beginning to get a bit paranoid though as my NPBs went from none to many in a few weeks- plus I've other issues like a cab arriving for me last week that I hadn't booked and last night a larg epizza being delivered and it had all my details on it- and I'm a coeliac so couldn't eat it anyway- however I can't see any way of linking the two issues of ebay and pizza even in my deepest conspiracy theories.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Unless one of your buyers liked your item so much that they went onto https://www.hungryhouse.co.uk and ordered a pizza from your local for you not realising that you couldn't eat it?0

Stupidly I let them buy the item, and guess what! they still have not paid, will have to open a NPB soon, that will teach me!
And there is more... Closed the NPB and got my fees back, and guess what - the buyer has opened a new ebay account and bought the 3 items back that she did not pay for - so much for the blocked bidders list and strikes!0
