Cabin baggage question

I don't think I've been on holiday for about 10 years, not since it's been very strict with the security anyway and it was always abroad with my parents.

Now I'm going to Ireland for the weekend with some friends and I've got myself all confused.

I understand that all liquids have to be in this little ziplock back, no containers can be more than 100ml, I need a new moisturiser but I believe everything will fit in there.

I've just bought a new little case that should be within the size requirements so should have no problem throwing a few clothes in there.

But the Ryanair site says things like jewellery, important documents, passport, money, camera & phones are not allowed in your baggage. But you're only allowed one bag, it says handbags have to go in your one permitted item.

So it's left me a bit confused, can I keep my passport/money/phone in my pockets, does that count or is that not allowed either?

Are you checking in a bag or are you just taking hand luggage?

The liquid restriction is only for liquids in your hand luggage. You can put what liquids you like in checked in baggage.

when Ryanair say you cant put valubles in your luggage, they mean checked in luggage. Incase it got lost. And obviously youd need your passport on your person for when you got to the other country - not on the plane still! So that all goes in your hand luggage.

If youre only taking hand luggage, then yes you will need to squeeze everything into 1 bag. I flew with Ryanair to Ireland last year for1 night and managed it, I did take another handbag - but if they ask you, you will have to fit it inside your hand luggage bag. So leave some room. But on my flight they didnt make us. But they can, so make sure it would fit in if needed. Ryanair are one of the worst companies for things like this, other ones like BA etc let you take on 2 in the first place.

But Ryanair do it so that if you turn up with 2 bags and they wont fit into 1, they can charge you for having to check one of them.

It's just one of those small cases to take on the plane in the cabin with me, I suppose it is hand luggage yes

So when they say these certain things aren't allowed in checked baggage does that mean proper full sized suitcases that go in the hold? I don't have to wear all my jewellery because I'm not allowed it in my cabin baggage? But I'm not allowed a handbag aswell?

Yeah I was thinking of that, putting my camera/phone/money/drivers license in my handbag but making sure it will fit into my little case. I wouldn't need them on the plane anyway. It's just very confusing lol

If you don't keep your passport (and your other valuables) on your person or in your hand baggage, you won't be able to get through security anyway. Your passport will be checked at border control/security, and then again at the gate before boarding (along with your boarding pass).
'Checked' baggage means checked in, i.e hold baggage. You can basically put what you want in your hold baggage (with the obvious restrictions of items that are not allowed on the plane at all), but you'd be crazy to put jewellery/money/valuables in hold baggage. If the bag is lost or stolen, you would have no claim on Ryanair or on your insurers for the valuables.
'Hand' luggage or 'cabin' luggage is the single bag you may take into the cabin with you. This is not just a 'small' bag, it must be within the maximum cabin baggage dimensions that are clearly shown on the Ryanair site. if it's only a fraction larger, then it will be refused as hand luggage and have to be checked in instead-and you'll pay a hefty fee for doing this at the airport, rather than online. So check before you travel.

Yes thats hand luggage then - anything that you are not checking into the hold of the plane is.

Yes they mean proper suitcases that get checked into the hold - you arent allowed important stuff in there - well you can put it in if you like but dont blame them if your Tiffany necklace gets nicked :)

No with ryanair you are not allowed a handbag too ( unless you can fit it inside your small case).

I took a small holdall thing that fit their ridiculous measurements for hand luggage but I managed to squeeze in a handbag too. I just wore it and no one said anything, but i knew if asked that it would fit in.

Your cabin luggage is the only bag you can take onto the plane with you. That's it.
I regularly fly with Ryanair and my handbag has to fit into that one piece of hand luggage.
Your jewellery can be put in this one bag which you carry on with you.
Any liquids must be in clear plastic bag, ziplock type and must be no more than 100ml.
Don't buy a bottle of water until you get through security.
You can't take tweezers with you!

Yes just do that, thats fine. It just depends what mood and what cabin crew you get at the gate or check in desk as to whether they bother to make you show them that it fits in.

You can take tweezers/pliers/boltcutters if you want to. But only in your checked baggage.

If you can put all in your pockets fine. If not, put in your handbag which will fit inside your cabin bag. You can take it out when going through security and access everything easily.

Or put in a small handbag and carry over your arm with a jacket draped over it ;).

    Have a great time :D
