Increased Passenger Tax - Easyjet

Has anyone been approached by them yet? Admittedly I booked some time ago, and the flight isn't until May, but I just wondered!

  • I had an email requesting an extra £5 per person due to the increase in APD. I logged into the 'My EasyJet' area and there was a button to click to make the additional payment - which I did.

Interesting! How long ago was that?
  • I booked the flight on 1 December 2006 and received the email on 5 January 2007. I paid the £10 a week or so later.

  • Nowt todo with Easyjet but we booked 2 business class flights last September for travel in August to South Africa and thought we were in for a right walloping for the new charges. However BA have said that of you had booked it before December then they would waive the charges. :T

Many people on here received said e-mail with a link to a page where the tax could be paid; now Easyjet have a link on their website to make a payment. If you have used more than one e-mail address with easyjet I would check all of them and any spam folders.

If you are sure that you booked before the implimentation of the tax then I would just login to the website. If you haven't receive anything from easyjet (you won't be the only one) and you want to wait for confirmation from Easyjet that you have to pay, my understanding is that ultimately they will take outstanding payments at the airport.
  • I've not been so much approached as mugged! Just had an email from Ryanair saying they'll be slapping the tax on my credit card.

Can they do this? Any ideas on how to stop them?

They claim "we have no alternative, in this instance, but to act as the UK Chancellor’s tax collector"

    Hmmmm

My understanding is that Ryanair can stop you boarding!

Think that's answered it about Easyjet - they've not approached me yet, and if it comes to it I'll just pay at the airport!
  • I have clicked on the link to pay APD on their website, and it is working, but is asking me for £10 for a return Bristol-Belfast in Feb, a further £10 for a return Bristol-Nice in May, and does not seem to have registered two further flights booked in June and July.
I thought it was £5 extra per flight. Possibly Belfast might be £10 with two flights taking off in the UK, but why is Nice being charged at £10 extra? Does anyone know for sure what the exact rules are?
I'm not paying until they clarify, and I'm certainly not ringing their expensive 'phone line.
I'll be very interested to hear in early Feb the experiences of the first people to turn up at the airport without having paid in advance.
  • Ranting1 - I think it's perfectly legal for them to do that.
